I've been trying to sell my old version of this score for a while now (I don't like it very much), but I'm guessing it will be impossible now that this is out. I can't even sell my old stuff before new versions appear that appeal more to the fans. Oy veh, what a time we live in.... ;)

Right: if it wasn't for this complete and chronological fad, you would be able to make more money on your used CDs. That's the really devastating part about all this.

I'm embarrassed to say that I am not that familiar with this score. I have only recently begun familiarizing myself with the earlier Trek scores (besides TMP, which I've loved for long time). Even being not familiar with it, I am extremely excited for this...somehow I know it is awesome. Must be the Force....er...wrong franchise.

Actually, I imagine it to be awesome because I love mr. Goldsmith, and I love TMP, Insurrection and First Contact.

I am curious how people rate ST:V agains Jerry's other Trek scores.

For me it's the second best after TMP.

Personally, I rate them:

1. TMP

2. TFF

3. NEM

4. INS

5. FC

Lately I've tended to rank First Contact ahead of V as second behind TMP for Jerry's Treks, but I'm fully prepared to rediscover this score and perhaps shuffle them again once I have this new copy.

I think the score for Trek 4 is not good at all but I actually really enjoy the film hahaha.

The film is fun as hell, the music blows. I would have much preferred if Horner had finished out the trilogy. Ah well. I'm usually a completist, but I would not buy an expanded Voyage Home. I would never listen to it. NEVER

I like the main title from IV.

This is one of Goldsmith's very best, in my opinion. If you don't agree, I ought to knock you on your God damned ass.

I couldn't agree more! I can't get into Goldsmith much at all, but his Trek scores(this one especially) are unbelievable.

Trek IV is like an ugly girl at a bar. I could enjoy the main titles after lots of alcohol. Like the ugly girls, Rosenman's music gets better the drunker I get.

I like the main title from IV.

Even before I became a score fanatic I loved those main titles.

Always thought it would have made for a great opening to some medieval sword & sorcery epic.

The reverse is true for V. The film blows, but the music is good. Still, I would rather have TMP, but I'll buy it.

Lol. It's pretty awful in some scenes. But the Kirk, Spock, McCoy camaraderie is great.

Right. It would be much better if you cut everything in between the camping scenes.

I agree that The Final Frontier is definitely Goldsmith's second best Star Trek Score. This is how too I would rate them...

The Motion Picture

The Final Frontier

First Contact

Nemesis

Insurrection

I find some of the cues from ST IV are fantastic. I always loved the Main/End Titles, Hospital Chase, The Whaler and Chekovs Run.

I own alot of other cd's that haven't 4 great tracks to put in.

Insurrection deserves more love than it gets. First Contact has a main theme that is so great, it makes the whole score seem better than it actually is.

Perhaps you should check out Rosenman's Lord of the Rings then. It has very similar passages to Trek IV, and LOTR is, well, a sword & sorcery epic.

Sorry, but Insurrection gets just about what it deserves. And First Contact is that great, many of my favorite cues have the main theme nowhere in it.

Like I said in the Home Alone thread. If people are having doubts about The Final Frontier score, honestly don't let a subpar movie stop you from enjoying an awesome score. Goldsmith really went above and beyond to make a golden score out of a subpar film. It definitely is his second best Star Trek score.

Those of you who liked Star Trek The Motion Picture's score then I'm extra certain you'll enjoy The Final Frontier's score.

I find it funny that Joe (Data) bought the OST recently only now to find it's obsolete since this set has a remastered OST for it. I definitely can NOT wait for this score to be in my hands.

Haha, yup, I just bought the OST used a couple of weeks ago. :P But I had some inkling that it'd probably get a complete release before too long, and I was okay with that. It was less than four bucks, after all. Anyway, I'll definitely look forward to purchasing both this and Home Alone! As always, major kudos to these labels for getting the rights and putting in the hard work to make this possible. Very exciting, and it really makes me want to want their releases just so I can financially support what they're doing. Very cool.

It's easy to love, it even has a ram's horn for the klingons, a great workout of the klingon fanfare and the theme from Part 1, the lyrical god stuff and the usual dynamic Goldsmith action, in RAMBO/LIONHEART-mode, as this is from the late 80s.

The only possible drawback could be the synthies, which do not sit too well with some, but they are really discreet here. I just hope the bright mix from the old cd is substituted for something more bass-heavy.

I chose Home Alone from these titles as a priority. What is stopping me from getting the others right away is my poor wallet and the little spirit of sensibility that whispers "you need money for other things too, food, rent and other expenses.". As much as I try to repress these whispers they do have a valid point. Maybe next year I will go on another score buying binge. But sadly not now. :P

They surely do not!

Karol - who wants to order ST V as soon as possible, but not just yet.

Well, THIS is something that made my jaw drop this morning !!!

This is one of my FAVORITE Star Trek scores, and it will replace my OST easily.

Why? The OST is a perfectly satisfying listening experience in its own right, incomplete as it may be.

Maybe it's because the OST is included (on disc two).

Dang it. This makes three must buys from LLL for me and one very strong maybe (Jade).

Nobody should let the quality of STV as a film prevent you from getting this score. It is not only a great Trek score but also a great Jerry score and just an enjoyable experience. As incomplete as the existing disc is, I enjoy it very much.

Agreed, but the OST is included (Start of Disc TWO), and the Complete Score is nearly always better for scores like this for me.

The OST is actually one of my most cherished CDs, and is a great presentation (Hiroshima performance of The Moon's A Window To Heaven not withstanding).

But that CD will be obsolete.

He certainly had plenty of practice.

Yeah, the synths are very light in this score, and well used. The only Trek score that's over-synthed to me is Insurrection.

There are bunch of smaller unreleased cues I've been waiting for and there's apparently more missing music than I realized. There's over 30 minutes added to the original score and that's with the silly song removed.

I agree Mark! I am looking so forward to those unreleased cues from Mr. Goldsmith's Trek V score. Sorry for my lame post. I'm still speechless and in shock, well just a tad.. ;)

I wonder if this will have the alternate fanfare Doug Fake mentioned over at Intrada a year or so ago? The way he worded it, it may not have been recorded even though attempts were made.

PS: i just for the fun of it listened to the sequence with Kirk's chair you mentioned and had one of those 'damn, there never will be a Jerry G. again' moments. It's such a great combination of bold and goofy and no Giacchino would have been able to catch a little moment like this...

I didn't know there was a boot for Eidelman's Trek VI. ;) I hope that doesn't interfer w/a legit release. I would also like to have on this potential stdk Mr. Eidelman's original score to the movie trailer.

So what's the story with that, uh, warp engine revving effect in the main title?

I think that was just a synth that Goldsmith did for the score. It didn't appear again after Star Trek V.

The boot for Star Trek VI has been around for a couple of years and I doubt it would interfere with a legit release. Unfortunately the boot is missing the cue "The Search" and the trailer for Star Trek VI.
