I got Spider-Man 2 for PS5. I played through the first game and didn't mind it so I figured I'd do this one especially since it's a state of the art game and not "enhanced". I appreciate that these games can be set to an easy difficulty where you don't die since I'm not really good at video games. No getting stuck on boss fights in these games.

They haven't really advanced the gameplay of these Spider-Man games since the original Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in game. Free roam swinging with side quests/crime fighting, ducking in and out of story missions and fighting various villains, over and over again. It's the exact same thing repackaged, only now with awkward MJ levels where you clean the house, riding bikes and using a bee drone with Metrosexual Harry, AKA things you wouldn't actually want to do. That's all they've added.

Oh yeah that one's only cheap on the PS Store, but I passed because the reviews weren't great. You reckon it's good?

Sounds like you're mixing it up with The Staff of Kings.

THAT game is dodgy.

Emperor's Tomb is the most fun you'll ever have beating up Nazis.

Only it's not available on PS at all.

You'd have to try PC.

But what about the oh-so emotional story??

I am uncertain. Because I have had little experience with emotion I am unable to to articulate the sensation.

Spent a few hours on Hogwarts Legacy, and I'm already growing impatient with it. There's not much combat, puzzles are absent, the characters are annoying, you can't leap off a ledge to your death and hear someone say "Oh god! No!", and there's too much fetch questing.

I'll give it a fair go and see if it improves. I usually like having a good balance of puzzles and fighting hordes of enemies, which this game seems to lack. So far it's mostly just a lot of mindless multiple choice chitchat with NPCs and QTE moments.

The environments are nice though, and I'm running this in Performance mode. I'm glad I didn't pay much for this bland thing.

I ignored almost every single side quest and focused on the main storyline missions. I can't play open world games unless I do this.

I've abandoned it and deleted it. Count it among my losses. Sorry but the game bored me to tears. I think I've become something of an adrenaline junkie with games, and Hogwarts Legacy doesn't deliver the goods.

So what is a consensus among the JWFan regarding that new Indy game? It is coming to PS5 in a couple of weeks and I am wondering whether to give it a chance. I barely play anything these days but wouldn't mind a nice adventure. First person puts me off slightly, to be honest, but perhaps the overall experience is worth it?

I had to get reacquainted with first-person from playing Resident Evil 7 and 8, and SOMA. So it doesn't put me off as much anymore. I'll probably get Giant Circle when it's on discount on the PS shop, which will be a while away anyhow.

It's absolutely brilliant. No hesitation. The first person is actually great!

You may also wish to check out Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy, too!

I enjoyed it and I appreciate the approach the developer took with the design, they did a really good job of making the player feel like Indiana Jones. End of the day though, I think third person should have still been the call. Uncharted is something I'd rather play instead, if I had to choose between them, because it's simply a much more thrilling video game experience and the Indiana Jones movies are thrilling linear adventures.

I'll be surprised if Drax likes the game.

I absolutely adore Uncharted games. Played each one multiple times.

Tried the latest Tomb Raider games for that kind of excitement but they are no good. I got bored. Suppose this is why I am being so careful with this one.

I wished they'd have focused more on Hogwarts student gameplay.

Instead they made a giant open world, which defeats the purpose of the title.

Likewise.

I'm a much bigger Indiana Jones fan than Star Wars and yet I found myself playing Jedi Survivor lately instead.

Still have to continue Great Circle one day...

I like The Lost Legacy best.

Good single package that repeats/improves on the various highlights of the series and doesn't outstay its welcome.

Fun!

I liked all the three Insomniac Spiderman games. They were fun to play.

I just finished the main story of 2. I called out of work just to play this stupid video game. Not bad at all, but I still find all the combat too repetitive and the button mashing hurts my hands. They do this annoying three round thing with the boss fights and it just becomes annoying. The endless waves of hunters is insane and ridiculous. If there were that many armed psychopaths who'd sworn their lives to the villain endlessly spawning, it'd be like the series finale of 1923.

I did like the story a lot more this time around. No surprise there, you get to be the Bad Motherfucker Black Spider-Man. No, not Miles Morales, but the Symbiote. As for Miles, he's fine I guess. Having two Spider-Men was neat to a certain extent, but I imagine players were put off by the ending. Most people probably don't want to be Miles over Peter Parker. The post credits scenes did nothing to change that for me.

Also, I never expected to be playing as MJ with a laser gun.

I'm surprised you liked the story better in 2, replaying the first game now, and I find it to be far more fun and interesting story-wise. The walking simulator stuff is less frequent in that one, and I feel the Mister Negative, Sinister 6, and Doc Ock story is a far stronger narrative than basically a repeat of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Web of Shadows, and Spider-Man 3 (2007).

Plus I like the logical progression from Kingpin/generic thugs to Mister Negative's gang, to Silver Sable's military as things get worse. Whereas Kraven having an army when his whole goal is to prove his strength and take out creatures himself is nonsensical, and the Symbiote invasion feels like an arbitrary way to get the "cure the world" line in and to repeat Web of Shadows' symbiote invasion plot.

Not to mention I found Peter and Harry's relationship to be so dull since they're so perfectly in love friends. Though I do like some of Peter's corruption with the symbiote too. I wish it was pushed further though.

I really wish they just cut her sections. Even that was so dull since it was just standard Last of Us-style third person shooter gameplay. Same with the boring deaf girl, and a lot of the Miles missions. Oh wow...I watch this guy ask someone out to prom for 5 minutes...fun.

Even the pigeon missions at least include some decent web swinging gameplay. Same thing with a lot of the worse side missions in the first game like Screwball. There was at least decent gameplay still there. The music was noticeably better in the first game too for me.

The fact that the original plan was for the third game to be almost exclusively Miles when he has no connection to Norman and Doc Ock whatsoever is laughable.

People have been shitting on Insomniac's Spiderman 2 since it came out but I thought it was perfectly okay, nice game. First one was probably better though.

I still hate the lack of other Marvel/DC games for this generation of consoles though (and the one that came before). What did we got over the last few years?

From Marvel, there's Insomniac's controversial but successful Spidey games, that Avengers game that flopped (I thought it was just "eh, whatever", not the abomination people say) and Marvel Rivals (which is a hit but not my kind of game).

DC doesn't produce a successful, well received game in a decade. Since Arkham Knight back in 2015 (!) we only had Gotham Knights (a flop) and that atrocious Suicide Squad crap (an even bigger flop). Where's a Superman, Wonder Woman, Justice League game for this gen? They were working in a WW game but cancelled it because Warner Bros' executives are a bunch of moronic cunts.

Posted

To be fair, I don't remember that much from the first game. These are basically entertaining rentals that someone who can give them attention for several hours over the course of a couple days can knock out the main game. The crime fighting and collecting quests don't really interest me much. Thank God you can skip the science puzzles and turn the difficulty to invincible. I never would have spent 70 bucks on it.

Anyway, back in December 2023 (a couple months after the release of Spider-Man 2), there was a massive leak from Insomniac Games. Hackers had access to a lot of stuff they were working on for future games.

They also found a timeline of their next releases and they include a bunch of Marvel games:

  • Marvel's Venom in Fall 2025
  • Marvel's Wolverine in Fall 2026
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 3 in Fall 2028
  • New Ratchet & Clank in Fall 2029
  • Marvel's X-Men in Fall 2030
  • New IP in 2031/2032

I guess their plans changed because of the leak because it's already 2025 and no word on a Venom game for later this year, nor on their fabled Wolverine game for the next year...

But the Venom sequence of SM2 was fun so a whole game in that format could be good.

I'm playing Ghosts of Tsushima. I was reluctant because open world stuff turns me off, but I'm surprised by how crisp this one is. It just feels so nice to control, the combat especially is 🫦

I've been playing this game for two hours, and I'm still trying to figure out whether I control the big smiley face or the other 'guy.'

Clearly, the two other goons aren't happy to see us in their apartment.

2980 points, wow!

Great game!

I'll always hold up Hogwarts Legacy as having the among the very best 'human flight' experiences in games, along with Bioware's failed Anthem. Soaring about the world was breathtaking, I did it endlessly and it was almost a game in of itself.

Posted

Ironically a lot of people's complaints with Hogwarts Legacy (not enough Hogwarts), was still one of my favorite aspects because I love open world exploration. Definitely agree on the flying being the best aspect of the game besides the gorgeous graphics. Runs so smoothly on the PS5 most of the time too. Also there definitely is still a lot to do in the castle, with a lot of secret chests and rooms and easter eggs.

It's definitely a type of game I've always wanted since childhood. I especially love how the game's world is obviously far more inspired by the warm, magical, active, and exciting Columbus films rather than the later entries.

My only major issues are what most people already criticize about it. NPCs are very often just dead-eyed decoration who barely react to anything you do, the story isn't anything to write home about (though I didn't mind it or the side quests), after you're done with the majority of the exploration there's not much left to do, and there's not enough of a morality system (unforgivable curses are forgiven).

The environments, simple but fun combat system, learning new spells, flying, the music (besides the bland Nicholas Hooper-esque villainous tracks), and some of the treasure maps and accio puzzles all really helped make it a pretty enjoyable experience both for longer play-throughs and doing some quick exploration.

Aye. Even Sydney Sweeney isn't her usual vixen self in it. She's quite plain when she isn't all dolled up.

Sweeney employs the greatest makeup artists on the planet. By the time they've finished with her she's like Aphrodite reincarnate. Otherwise she's like, yeah, not too bad.

I just reached the darkest level of Silent Hill 2 remake. And I mean that literally, you can barely see anything lol. It's the Toluca Prison, and the journey to get there was nerve-cracking in terms of atmosphere and included a room filled with bugs with an annoying puzzle that reminded me of Temple of Doom..

Do any of you here create games too?  Here are some screens from a top down side scroller I created many years ago.  I was obsessed with games back then so took a class on programming them.

When I thought I was getting the hang of Silent Hill 2 and mastering its gameplay and mechanics, the game threw me more curveballs. It feels like it gets scarier and more fucked up the more you progress on the game. The prison and labyrinth levels were very dark and disturbing, and by the end of the labyrinth there was a surprisingly difficult boss fight.

Now I just have the hotel level left to go... A huge level with no less than three bosses.

I recently played Yakuza 3 Remastered. It was enjoyable, though I found it a bit weaker than the first two in terms of story. Visually, even the original version of Yakuza 3 was a step up from Yakuza 1 and 2.

After taking a short break from gaming, I'm about to start this. Ready to step back into the Wakeverse...

I just started the Hotel level yesterday. Didn't advance too much because I was a bit tired but I can see it'll be every bit as tense and unnerving as the others.

Just finished Star Wars: Jedi Survivor.

Why is Bode such an idiot?

I'm sure Cal would've willingly helped him get his daughter away from the ISB.

And then they could all go happily hide on Tanalorr.

No betrayal required.

What was the guy hoping to gain??

It's kind of a weird ending. I wasn't a fan of that plot twist either, but whatever. I never completed any side quests after the main game, so it basically ends with a pissed off Cal standing there. Where's the next one?

I'm currently playing:

Schedule I

Helldivers 2

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (Starting soon)

I'm not engaged enough to try finding all the side content either.

They can go explore Tanalorr in the meanwhile, I guess.

I'm sure it's in the works.

Gotta complete the trilogy.

Hope they'll find something for our heroes to actually succeed at.

The time frame is annoying as there's very little room for them to actually accomplish anything.

Silent Hill 2 remake

undefined

I never played a Silent Hill game before. Heck I barely played horror games before, except for stuff like The Last of Us and that Friday the 13th multiplayer... Still, I was going to be home alone for a few days back in late March/early April and since I couldn't find any horror movies that excited me I decided to do something a little different and go for a game.

Considering SH2 is considered one of the best horror games ever and that the remake was faithful to what made the original so good, oh boy... I was in for a treat. A horrifying treat.

This is exactly the kind of horror that I like. Psychological horror, where the decadence of the ambient and the menacing monsters around you only serve to reflect your own issues, mental problems, traumas, anyway, your inner demons.

The game is incredibly good at atmosphere. It's great. In the beginning the uninitiated (like myself) may confuse it for a Last of Us-style thing, but then the game goes deeper and deeper into psychological horror. When I thought I was getting good at beating the game, it threw me the prison and the labyrinth levels which were (literally) dark, disturbing and terrifying.

It creeped me out but now I want to play more games like this!

How's the difficulty? As I get older I've noticed I have ever shrinking patience for annoying roadblocks such as particularly challenging boss fights and opaque puzzles.
