So the kind-hearted actor paid for the swanky do himself, in east London, also jokingly referred to as the “Last Brewsade”.

The best part of the article:lol:

The proof will be in the pudding. For instance, does Mangold have the balls, or rather, the clout, necessary to depict moments of sudden extreme violence, in a Disney Indiana Jones? I highly doubt it.

Think that'll come down to Spielberg more than Disney. There's no way Spielberg didn't retain final cut (or gave it to Mangold by proxy).

That said, Spielberg's own Indy 4 was oddly bloodless and tepid, as if he was "whitewashing" the character from killing anyone.

He's signed off on the violent Jurassic World films though, so... who knows.

Last Crusade is a great film but there was clearly a concerted effort to "ground" the series after TOD.

Dunno that "ground" is how I'd put it.

The Last Crusade takes the outrageousness of the serial plotting and setpieces of Indiana Jones and treats them...as comedy, really; which is probably why I like it the most. They're all knowingly over-the-top, but The Last Crusade is the most succesfull at actually deriving laughs from it.

Hmm, I think Last Crusade is a little too "fun". The tension in action scenes just isn't quite the same as the Raiders truck chase.

Yeah, that's because you already got the tense truck chase from 'Raiders'.

Pre-release PR is a fickle mistress. With all due respect to Mikkelsen, this will be closer to 'Jungle Cruise' than to anything from the 80's. Di$ney doesn't earn big bucks by catering to a 40+ year old men crowd living in the past and Spielberg will not playing the 500 pound gorilla here and now.

And yet there’s way more at stake because the father figure is there…

That's a fantastic poster. Richard Amstel at his very best. Too bad Marshall ruined it by standing in front of it.

FFS, it's a photo of him in front of his own movie. Nothing "ruined" there.

I am going out of my mind for this movie.  I want this more than any other film.  More than Decker wanted to merge with V'Ger... I want this.

Same, I am ridiculously excited for this movie. Just from the set leaks it looks good.

Oh, yeah, that's how it always starts. First there's "ooh"ing, and "ahh"ing, then later, there's "boo"ing, shouting.

Remember... CRYSTAL SKULL started out in just the same way.

You have been warned...

I feel James Mangold has really proven himself with The Wolverine and Logan. This might still suck because of Kathleen Kennedy’s evil influence, but I’m still optimistic for now.

Only the nutjobs who post on soundtrack forums didn't

The 5.4 user score on Metacritic would say otherwise.  Most fans felt indifferent to KOTCS at best, with very few praising it for much.  Even Spielberg has trashed talked the movie at this point.  Mangold is a great director and hopefully can give Indy a good farwell.

User scores on websites are worthless. They are voted on by a very specific type of person and are not at all representative of what the larger populace thinks. I’d defer to something like CinemaScore which is more methodical in capturing actual data that isn’t self-selected. There, Crystal Skull received a B, not amazing but certainly positive.

Over time i've changed my mind about Ford playing this character in older age and I started to think it's interesting. They kind of basically have to make them less actiony and that might also be interesting to me. Unfortunately, I don't like KOTCS at all.

For a hotly anticipated tentpole, a B cinemascore is an F.  It measures enthusiasm of those who went to see it opening night, the audience most motivated to like it.  An A- can mean like $100 million less at the box office than if it had an A.

I should think an F would be an F. You can argue the context about it being a blockbuster, it being a sequel to a revered franchise, that it should have done better than a B, but that doesn’t change that most people, nonetheless, liked the film, even if not very strongly. That doesn’t even mean it necessarily is a good film. That just means any claims that most people disliked the film are not based in fact. Most people go to the movies to see pretty lights and hear a few jokes, not to whine about Shia Labeouf.

fortunately KOTCS came out at a time when the internet was still in it's infant social media phase, with trending, memes ect.  back then MOST hate was just on message boards and maybe youtube comments (EXCLUDING REVIEWS). but you really had to go out of your way to read hate on it.  It still obviously got a lot of hate from people...but if KOTCS came out today.....oh boy....the internet would feast it into a never-ending meme.

Now that Disney has a firm release of Indy 5, Disney Concerts can get off their butts and start preparing a LTP concert for, at least, one of the Indy films, so that they can take advantage of the fanbase who are now counting down the days towards the release.

Take this year, for example.  To cash in on the fan-fever over the release of 'Jurassic World: Dominion', these orchestras have booked the 'Jurassic Park' LTP concert on these dates:

BTW, In FCL’s Jurassic Park webpage, bookings of Washington state, Arkansas, and Milan are missing.

However, there is a possibly that Disney Concerts may have already done it.  As I’ve theorized in this thread, before a image-logo of a Disney LTP concert is displayed on their website, I suspect that the first persons that are aware of their latest content are the orchestra-staffers that book the ‘Pops’ concerts.  For example, the LTP concert of the 1993 film, “Hocus Pocus’, has some bookings …

Quote

…but there’s still no image-logo in Disney Concerts’ website to this day. So, I’m thinking that maybe an LTP concert of an Indy or a Star Wars film may have been created and orchestra-representatives are being informed of them, first, so that they can book it in the new season’s schedule.

I'm just telling you, as a measure of audience enthusiasm a studio considers a B a bad CinemaScore.

Most of the time movies that get an F are the interesting auteur experiments that are a bit confrontational with the audience on purpose.  Like Aronofsky's Mother! and Soderbergh's Solaris.

Like the new Doctor Strange got a B+, which is pretty mediocre for an MCU movie which almost all get A or A+.  And lo and behold, DS2 had the steepest 2nd weekend drop of any MCU movie yet.  Eternals got a B and way underperformed on the heels of Shang-Chi doing better than expected.

Is my memory failing me or was KOCS the only previous Indy film where Indy had a backpack, instead of using his satchel?

The lighting is certainly gorgeous though. It's even hard to tell if this is a real location or soundstage, but visually it's more interesting than the various crypts we saw in KOCS.

I do enjoy all the subtle costume changes throughout the series. Although there's no official photos, I believe we're seeing Indy with his TLC-era tie again in the 5th film.

yeah it was a nice touch in kotcs.

that image makes me want the final-final act just to be Indy discovering whatever he needs to discover.  no villain fight. no sidekicks.  just Indy by himself, contemplating it all.

Well we know that ain't happening :P

But I'd love to see a more contemplative, restrained final act (after the traditional large action sequence at the start of act 3). Especially because all the VFX and visual nonsense at the end of KOCS amounted to... well, very little.

I just hope Mangold allows a few extended sequences purely for musical highlighting, in the same way The Map Room: Dawn, The Scroll / To Pankot Palace and Wrong Choice / Right Choice are carried almost entirely by music.

At least we can look forward to multiple chase cues. Train Chase, Parade Chase, Morocco Chase, etc.
