Popular Post WampaRat 1,105
From the EMPIRE article: “Henry Butterworth, writing alongside director James Mangold – the Logan and Ford V Ferrari filmmaker, now facing the daunting task of following up a certain Steven Spielberg (on board here as producer). For Mangold, it was all about the challenge of making a final Indiana Jones film. “It became really important to me to figure out how to make this a movie about a hero at sunset,” he says, noting that he steered the film further in that direction. “The issues I brought up about Indy’s age were not things I thought were being addressed in the material being developed at the time. There were ‘old’ jokes, but the material itself wasn’t about it. To me, whatever you greatest liability, you should fly straight towards that. If you try to pretend it’s not there, you end up getting slings and arrows the whole way.” Yep. Indy’s old. And that’s the point. Really really excited to see what Mangold does. I’m confident it will extend beyond the usual tropes of “childhood hero is now broken, grizzled, and disillusioned, but gets called back into action one last time” Can’t wait! https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/indiana-jones-is-back-adventure-laughs-real-emotion-harrison-ford-world-exclusive/ mstrox, Brando, Yavar Moradi and 1 other 2

WampaRat 1,105
I’m sure there were a lot of cooks in the kitchen that didn’t want to acknowledge “old Indy” and thought they could just lamp shade over things with dumb one-liners and call it a day. Glad to see them (apparently) digging into the idea in a thoughtful manner while still providing the thrills and spills we’re all expecting. “To me, whatever you greatest liability, you should fly straight towards that.” What’s more “Indiana Jones” than that? Seems to have a terrific understanding and appreciation for how music functions within film. That sweet spot for composers where he’s more descriptive about feeling and story rather than saying “make it sound like xyz score”. I’m looking forward to hearing his experiences on working with Williams in a couple short months. MaxMovieMan 269
What a lame announcement. And god damn Harrison looks old but I’m sure he’ll be awesome in the movie. He’s clearly still ready for action movies considering he just signed on for a huge Marvel role. Also James Mangold is a perfect choice for this especially after he already did a farewell film with “Logan.” For this movie though I’m mostly excited for Williams’ score considering it’s his last. It’s fitting considering Raiders might be his best score (Besides “Empire” for me maybe).
Popular Post crumbs 14,304
I love how old Indy still works in the costume, but he looks transformed from a youthful adventurer into a grizzled detective on the hunt for clues in some globetrotting mystery. The shadowy shot in the bar (albeit a posed photo) looks delightfully film noir. It's exactly the change in tone I was hoping KOCS would take fifteen years ago (especially with the Cold War setting, which they wasted) but it seems like Mangold is embracing it. I think this bodes well. Pair that with Williams' Golden Hollywood approach to the score and the tone of this film is coming together nicely. crumbs 14,304
I think he'll be chasing a McGuffin that he thinks can change history, but ultimately it won't be possible (or will have inadvertent consequences, like the Monkey's Paw). I suspect finding a way to resurrect Hitler will be part of the plot, as that was one of the ideas in Darabont's abandoned Indy 4 script. Mikkelsen looks perfect there too. Just ooozes Indiana Jones villain energy. First look at Boyd Holbrook too. Brando

There was a production crew hat with “Indy”on it. (Frank Marshal tweeted it a while back once production wrapped) It would be pretty silly to do an official title reveal at this point and have that be the name when it was already shared by the producer a couple months ago. I know Mangold did that with Logan, but I doubt he’d do it for Indy V. I suppose with the Marvel movies, there’s not exactly a standard for having a title and subtitle, but with Indiana Jones there is. I don’t think he’d want to break precedent and not have a subtitle.
