TownerFan 4,983
I always loved the piece "Mine Car Chase" from the Temple of Doom score--it's one of those magnificent, ebullient musical rollercoaster that only Williams seems able to write. Williams nailed the sequence with such deft and skill, infusing it with a cartoon-like madcap spirit that is just perfect (I always laugh when I try to picture the faces of poor piccolo players when looking at the score for the first time). The moto perpetuo idea at the core of the piece always reminded me the classic "Powerhouse", a piece composed by the great Raymond Scott and used in countless Warner Bros. cartoons. I think this was a very intentional thing, as JW surely knows the piece very well: his father was the drummer of the Raymond Scott Quintette and this is probably their most famous piece. I guess this is a lovely nod to his dad's musical legacy.Judge it for yourself!
Naïve Old Fart 9,512
WOW!!!!! Thanks, Mazz, this is brilliant; virtuoso playing, and, yes, it does sound like "TMCC", or rather the other way round. Now I know where that section in "La Villa Strangiato" comes from. I'm happy! One thing, though, aren't there 6 of 'em?
Miguel Andrade 1,263
Somewhat in topic, I would sugest anyone interested in knowing more about Raymond Scott to check the wonderful documentary directed by his son. Check the website here.It includes some very interesting commentary by Williams himself.
