If you want to see a movie that is not in theatres anymore, which method do you use most often?

It struck me how there are way more ways to obtain film/television than there are to obtain music. I'd imagine the industry is incredibly competitive, since there are so many different types of businesses to compete with.

For music, I usually buy a physical copy from an online vendor (usually Amazon Marketplace). For film/television, I usually either rent a movie from Comcast's OnDemand. If they don't have the product I'm looking for, then I go to a local physical video store that has tons of selection and rent it there. I chose the former, because I probably use that one more often.

I watch random stuff on Sky, but if I need something specific, I turn to newsgroups (using an encrypted connection - take that DPI). Just too little value in buying TV shows - I basically watch then delete. It's not really any different to watching it on TV.

If I like a score and it's available to buy, I buy it. No ifs, no buts. Especially since Amazon digital is doing a 2 for £10 deal on digital albums at the moment.

But, I'm not blind buying, and if the label won't let spotify have it them I'm afraid I'm going to download it anyway. If it's good, they'll get my money soon. If not, they won't.

I won't even lie. I do a mixture of both. Sometimes, i'll download a copy, and if I like it, I'll go out and buy a copy, or if I hate it, I trash it; other times it's a blind buy for me. However, if it is refused a release, I'll download it with no problems.

For TV shows I watch generally everything online these days. Mostly Youtube since a lot of them get put on there.

For movies since I'm mostly sticking to Blu-Ray I buy that. On occasion I have downloaded a film to check it out. Generally though if I do that particular movie has been out for a few years. I really don't like to download new movies.

For film scores, well I buy my L.E.'s through our labels (or Movie Music in my case for the most part). I haven't bought any regular OST CD's in a long time since L.E.'s have been given my full attention lately. All though there is some stuff I like to track down and get on CD. For complete scores though, I have my means...

95% of my shopping is done at Amazon.com

I buy my CDs from them, although most music I purchase these days is direct from the labels.

I buy my video games and accessories from them.

I buy my Blu-rays from them.

Almost all of my music is bought in physical form online, because most music purchases have been limited edition score releases, of late. OOP scores I usually get from Amazon Marketplace or Half.com. I've noticed that lately the non-score purchases have been in a store, but it will depend on the specialty of the item and the prices, or just how badly or urgently I want/need it.

A lot of my DVDs I get as gifts, but where I purchase will also depend on the circumstances. I've gotten a number of DVDs cheaply at Target or Wal-Mart--$5 a pop for titles like Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, and Young Sherlock Holmes. Gotten a few boxed sets at Best Buy. A number of DVDs I bought on Ebay, but it's been years since I did that.

Like others - a mixture. Music I tend to buy from Amazon Marketplace or online retailers.....occasionally I will search out and download naughty copies if it's spomething I'm not sure about, then go and buy the physical copy if I like it....or stick to the download if it's something that is completely unavailable or out of my price range. That said, I keep a lookout for the physical copies if it's something I like - I don't "download to keep" - I want the proper pressed shaving mirror with all the delicious packaging!!

TV/Movies - movies I buy full stop - there are plenty of places which if one waits just a few months you can get DVD's for just a couple of pounds...or will snap up that new release if I'm desperate. Rarely download unless it's something unavailable on these shores. TV I tend to download a fair bit - many decent shows either not on UK tv or several months behind....and sorry, but that next episode of The Office or Hell's Kitchen simply will not wait!!! Will also download shows as they appear, then buy DVD at end of season a la Doctor Who or Primeval. And I download WWE shows. A lot. And stream quite a bit of other stuff too.

So - mixture - but generally on the right side of things - not that that is any justification.

Mixture for me as well - downloading, online stores, physical stores.

The physical store bit has been cut drastically over the years, though. Then again, I'm not really buying many CD's or DVD's these days in the first place.

I buy most of my film scores online from the various labels / distributors, unless it's a major new release that I know will be available in stores.

As far as TV & movies go, I buy my DVD's wherever I can find them the cheapest. And I pay for monthly cable service so I watch my TV shows when they are aired or use the DVR to record them for a later viewing.

I download/stream everything. Whether illegal or not depends of your location...

Downloading as in paying for it? Or downloading as in Demonoid?

Of course - but difference between downloading a few TV shows here and there and downloading/streaming everything, which is why I asked...

Actually if I pay for something I prefer to have the physical object. I download most of my music, which isn't much. I used to download TV shows but now I try to stream them if I can.

I try to buy as much as possible, generally through Amazon (usually marketplace), the specialist boutiques ie SAE, and brick and mortar. I download or preview on Spotify to try some things out, but I only keep it if it's OOP and hard to find/expensive.

Some things I want can't either yet or anymore be bought on CD, DVD or Blu-ray, so quite often, I'm "forced" to download them (e.g. the La Femme Nikita TV series). Otherwise, I always absolutely try to buy the original releases. Quite often, my friends, family and girlfriend call me crazy and "having too much money" for spending huge amounts of dough at Amazon, SAE, Intrada, La-La Land and similar "joints" but hey, what the hell, you gotta have a passion for something! :P Sometimes, I also download a sountrack/movie and check it out before buying a physical copy; if I like it, I almost always buy it, otherwise I simply delete it.
