Why do I love a movie nobody seems to like...?

For me, Rocky Balboa (2006).

I just love this film, and not in a "guily pleasure" sense where I acknowledge its shortcomings, but still like it. No, I sincerely LOVE this film and think it's one of the most endearing films ever made. :)

I wouldn't go that far but I did enjoy it.

Mind you, I'm always gonna be a soft touch for movies starring the dinosaurs from my childhood. Hence why I'm eagerly awaiting Arnie's return to daft action movies.

Hmmm...

One that comes to mind is Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. I've come across people that don't it like too much, I for one just fucking adore it. I think it's because it's the first film I remember seeing in theaters. I don't give a shit what people say about Costner or his lack of accent, he was fantastic. And when Rickman slashes his chin at the final duel and says "aand now we're even." is IMO one of the greatest on-screen villain moments of all-time.

I was gonna say Battlefield Earth for a laugh, but even I would have taken offense at such a tasteless joke.

And then someone went and put The Postman...

I've seen that movie 3 times actually enjoying it every time. Can't help it.

Nobody? Nah, ever since the internet, you're never alone anymore.

Highlander!

Great film (or more accurately,an original story and great 'idea' for a film that was 'reasonably' brought to fruition). Not watching it anymore is more to do with me having 'overwatched' it.

I saw it on TV a few days ago. Wonderfully cheesy, but it works on a higher level then that.

Highlander 2 is of course horse shit!

Agreed, Highlander has some cringworthy moments that really stand out for me now. But as you say, somehow the clever idea transcends (just) the failings.

Highlander II would probably have worked ok as a stand alone sci-fi film in itself, rather than trying to attach (major fail) to the Highlander story.

But it does have some pretty 'awesome' moments in the soundtrack by Stewart Copeland.

Is this film remotely similar to the original? Is it funny?

I love Dumb and Dumber.

Similar? No way. The movie is straight up dumb, borderline retarded. The first one atleast had some wit and taste and plot to drive it.

This film has none of that and a 10% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The humor is stupid funny, it's honestly ONLY worth it to see Eric Christian Olsen play Jim Carey's character to a tee.

I feel guilty for recommending this movie to anyone. With that all said, I don't mind it too much.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Loved it when I saw it in the theater when I was eleven years old. Watched it the other day for the first time in probably five years - still loved it.

The Doors (1991) - Generally gets a slamming both from critics and even from the remaining members of the group themselves, but I love the film. It takes place in a total haze.

Alexander (2004) - Another one slammed (and rightly so,at times). Rather like Lynch's 1984 Dune,it could have been a lot better but has great moments surrounded by moments that cheapen it.

It is one of the most uneven movies I have ever seen, but when it soars, it reaches incredible heights

I actually like most of the films mentioned here.

I've always loved WATERWORLD and Roland Emmerich's stuff, which always gets a lot of flack.

Always (1989)

Yes! That's the one I was trying to remember, thank you!

I adore Always. The music is beautiful, the whole film just really works for me. Can't even quite put my finger on why. I just do. Of course, I'm a total sentimental romantic, so that might be a factor. ;)

Kick-Ass. Pretty much the only recent movie I enjoyed as much as the old 70's-80's classics in the cinema (you know, the ones with actual movie magic that most action movies seem devoid of nowadays)

Most reviews were highly positive, but it did poorly at the box office and a lot of people did try to make you feel like there's something wrong with you if you loved that film

Waterworld and Cutthroat Island

I love those movies too! A lot of people do, I'd say.

It might not be exactly fit in this category, I admit. But I find it to be very underrated nontheless. Especially for a Kubrick film.

No they didn't. At least they didn't in my experience.

The Terminal

The Three Musketeers (1993)

These are good. Terminal is a bit sappy. I like that Hanks got away from what was becoming his typical sappy feel-good movie thing when he collaborated with Spielberg. Then, of course, they make Terminal. Three Musketeers is harmless popcorn fun.

Lots of people fall asleep with that movie too. At least Highlander spawned 4 sequels (and a TV series?) so there's real proof that more than enough people actually like Highlander. But no, you had to say it with Eyes Wide shut, didn't you? Only at JWfan!

Battlefield Earth

I love how it's so bad, I appreciate the book that much more.

You do realise now you are on the Scientology hit list?

I really love watching Giorgio Moroder's update of Metropolis. Many people think that what he did was sacreligious but it sure made people think more seriously about film preservation.

Accurate description, that.

Not much of it is on YouTube because it keeps being removed, but one of those soaring moments..............

"Isn't it a lovely thing to live with great courage and to die leaving an everlasting fame! Come Macedonians, why do you RETREAT? Do you want to live forever? In the name of Zeus...ATTACK!! :folder: !"

5:40 onwards.

Absolutely rousing, and that intense scene was so emotionally overwhelming for me when watching it in the cinema.
