I apologize, I missed it

Lay off Jason - if it wasn't for his obsessive news whoring I wouldn't have a clue what was happening in the world.

I'm talking real news you idiot.

Muppet movies and Disney cash-in sequels.

Instead of creating a new thread I'll just stick this in here.

Elfman did a lengthy Q&A at WB, moderated by Jeff Bond, not too long ago. He discusses Dark Shadows, his career with Burton, and a ton of other stuff. I can't remember much of the details since I watched it a couple weeks back, but I recall him stating Batman is his most overrated score and that Big Fish was the hardest Burton film to pen the music for.

Wonderful interview, really. A very candid and fun chat.

LeBlanc acts like he is the one who comes up with all the news. He is like "Hey, look at me ! I've got news !". I find that despicable. He tends to forget there is someone somewhere doing all the dirty work. A silent guardian, a watchful protector. They call him... The Messenger.

Well I heard the Messenger was going into retirement, since nearly everyone else seems to be able to do his job better than he can these days ;)

The curious thing is that that Hitch biopic tells the story of the making of Psycho. Elfman adapted Herrmann's original score for the 1998 remake directed by Gus Van Sant.

Posted

Wow, that is quite the coincidence! Elfman did a fine job for that Psycho remake though, so it'd be interesting to hear what he'll do with the Hitchcock pic.

Exactly. His adaptation of Psycho is even closer to the original than Herrmann's own re-recordings! I'm excited for this.

This guy (Paul Schackman) is playing Herrmann

Pretty much spot on physically :)

Wow. Pretty good physical similarity. Now he has to get the cantakerous, volatile and hyper-individualistic attitude and the New York accent and slightly grating voice right.

Awesome! Hitchcock must be a dream project for Danny.

That's the first thing I thought when I saw the topic title. Elfman must be right in his element here. :)

Anthony Hopkins looks pretty good here

That is certainly an impressive similarity.

This opens the door for the forthcoming Spielberg, a behind the scenes, dramatic interpretation, about the making of "Jaws", with Jesse Eisenberg in the lead role and Daniel Day-Lewis as Williams.

And Williams can score it. What a paradox.

Why exactly are they making this? I know that Hitch was great and all, but I just never saw this type of biopic ever being made for some reason.

Posted

My only concern is that it chronicles the production of a single film, but I guess Hitch wasn't that interesting of a person to warrant a life's story.

Elfman has just finished composing the score for David O'Russell's American Hustle. He will also score Fox/Dreamworks Animation's Mr. Peabody and Sherman (out March 2014), as well as Tim Burton's Big Eyes for next year.

Looking forward to AMERICAN HUSTLE the most, since I prefer Elfman's more moody, ambient stuff these days than the big and boisterous stuff for Burton or animation.

American Hustle looks like a pretty cool movie too!

I have a feeling Big Eyes is going to be a more Big Fish-like score. It seems very low-key.

Posted

Most certainly! The film has no supernatural elements, so that should be interesting; even Big Fish had that. The film seems promising too.

BIG FISH is fantastic -- one of my favourites and an Elfman must-have, IMO.

Music Box Records will be releasing the complete score to Good Will Hunting in 2014

This is it! We have fixed all legal issues.

The coming CD album will contain the five songs by Elliott Smith (including "Miss Misery") and the complete original score composed by Danny Elfman. We will also include more cues than the FYC Promotional CD.

The album will likely be released in 2014.

According to Music Box Records' Facebook page, it's "coming soon"

- Our American title will feature the music for an intimate drama about the hardships of facing your own true self and realizing your full potential. The work of two upcoming screenwriters, this film took the awards circuit by surprise and we're really proud to premiere the complete score, including five songs also featured on the soundtrack.
