What Is The Last Film You Watched? (Older Films)

Julie & Julia.

Not the best choice when you’re suffering from a Meryl Streep overdose (that voice), but I love Amy Adams, who I haven’t seen in anything since Dawn of Justice, I think… and who repeatedly mispronounces boeuf bourguignon here. There’s also too many people eating with their mouths full of food in it, but Jane Lynch was great and why on earth did I not recognise Stanley Tucci? The movie might be a little long as well, but I am mostly very happy with the way things ended. A scene in which Julie stopped revering Julia after it turned out she didn’t like the blog at all might have been a good idea, but I had a really relaxing evening watching this.

Desplat’s score is delicious, Psycho Killer brought me right back to my childhood and Clarke’s Trumpet Voluntary arranged for strings was quite something too. And now I’m hungry.

Midnight Cowboy, that's the movie with this silly old Republican actor who can't stop making a fool of him?

Reagan was in that?!😳

Asian porn girls are incredibly gorgeous and impossibly shapely, but I can't bear to watch their stuff due to the horrible little peckers on the blokes.

Quintus, The Size Queen!

Spoken by someone who has never had size.

My Boston and I are watching Silence of the Lambs. She loves the Precious scenes.

Its a film where a troglodyte peasant joins a gilded tin-man, a dwarf, a pirate, a wizard and a bigfoot on the quest to rescue the princess from the fortress of the evil sorcerer...

So it's a musical without the singing? Hmm ... I see it now.

It's The Sun, guys, The Sun . Nobody, but nobody in the UK takes anything The Sun says seriously.

Don't sweat the small stuff :)

All these "woke"/"cancel culture"/BLM assholes are very quick to point out what they think is offensive, but never, ever suggest any alternative. Funny, that.

My problem with Grease is that the resolution should have been the characters ditching the toxic peer pressuring gangs and doing whatever they want instead of faking a personality just to appeal to them. It's even kinda set up when Rizzo sees how quickly the entire school is turning on her! It's a secretly dystopian ending!

Never seen GREASE.

Never will.

Don't care.

Get on with your lives!

Well they make shows now like Bridgerton that depict 19 century British queens as black with Asian handmaidens.

They weren't black?!😳

Ugh, in the Fifties any mention of the word "toxic" meant radioactive water. Bugger of Holko, you're boring.

No, why don't you get on with your life instead?

Grease is another of those that has you wondering how it managed a PG/A rating ... Greased Lightnin' alone contains such lyrics as ...

'You know that ain't no shit, we'll be getting lots of tit in Greased Lightnin' '

'The chicks'll cream
For Greased Lightnin' '

'You know that I ain't braggin', she's a real pussy wagon, Greased Lightnin' '

Hehehe.

As ever, the 'whinywokers' using *modern standards* to judge a movie released in the Seventies and set in the Fifties can fuck RIGHT off.

Batman Begins ... ahh, remember actually comprehensible Chris Nolan blockbusters? Even with its more down-to-Earth approach to Bats, am willing to bet this is still more fun than the upcoming Pattinson flick.

Pardon the bitterness I'm about to spew, but Grease is kinda dumb and was always so and what's ironic is that back in the day conservatives probably wanted to cancel it for it's sexual content and its themes.  The tables, they have turned.

And I don't care.

I don't like Grease.

It's not worth fighting a culture war over.

Some randoms on Twitter say something. Why is that a news story and why do these nobodies wield so much influence?

Those randoms on Twitter are a big bubble of conformist thought.  But their bubble is much bigger, and thus influential, than yours.  And, of course, my one-man bubble.

But they're still just regular people, like you or I. What makes their opinion so damn special that they must constantly be given a podium and be mollycoddled with appeasement?

Batman Begins is my favorite Bat-movie. I like it more than its more famous sequel.

I still think it loses a lot of steam in the second half. I love all the stuff up until Batman actually appears

Maybe because in the most economically important  regions they are the majority or something close to it.

Paterson. I watched this one in preparation for my first online meetup with an Irish independent movie lovers group. Really liked the calm pacing, the ethereal score, Chasten Harmon, Kara Hayward and Rizwan Manji. I seem to recall Adam Driver had a weird voice, but he sounds perfectly normal here, so maybe I was imagining things. I couldn’t help wondering whether there was more to it all, though, and was briefly hoping for a Shutter Island twist or something. Golshifteh Farahani and her character slowly grew on me, but I could have done without the final scene or at least the entire conversation. Why does IMDB call this a comedy and why did it take me so long to recognise William Jackson Harser? Feeling pleasantly drowsy now.

I saw Joker two weeks ago.

It was better than I expected, but it remains a very disturbing movie.

Too fucked up for me.
