Love them both equally I guess, although I'm not a sports fan!

That’s great because Rocky isn’t a sports film. Btw. did you know that a film about the making of Rocky is in the works? The story of how Stallone could even make the movie is just as miraculous as ROCKY. I think it’ll be a great biopic.

Also noteworthy was this film was very beautifully shot by Vilmos Zsigmond who went on to shoot one of the most beautiful films ever, Close Encounters.

Vilmos Zsigmond told me years ago that he was going to be the cinematographer of JAWS, but there was a scheduling conflict and he had to decline, but Spielberg asked him again to do CEotTK. Too bad Zsigmond forgot to thank Spielberg when he received the Academy Award, because had Spielberg not been offended, Zsigmond would’ve shot a lot more of his films. Funny how fate works.

I just taped that one on Turner Classic Movies

Yeah, that's where I saw it.  I also saw "Things to Come" (1935) by H.G. Wells on the same channel a few days earlier.  Noteworthy because first film London Symphony Orchestra scored but the film is very timely once you get over the strange acting style (clearly all the cast has a theater background so seemed to be performing on stage.  You get used to that and eventually start seeing it for what it was, a charming, imaginative, and ultimately timely film.

Warlock - Highlander-esque supernatural action adventure in which a 17th century warlock (Julian Sands) and his witch-hunter captor (Richard E Grant) are transported forward 300 years to 20th century America, where the warlock begins a search for an ancient book that will allow him to learn God's name and henceforth undo creation and the witch-hunter endeavours to stop him. Pretty fun in a fairly cheesy way (most of the effects aren't exactly ILM, lol). Also starring Lori Singer.

Love these Rocky movies! Even this. The one I'm not very fond of is Rocky V. And I also don't remember Rocky Balboa as I've watched it once, and slept during the last fight..

Fixed.

The only V worse than Star Trek V is Rocky V. And it's close.

Rocky V plus Rocky II equals Rocky VII! Adrian's Revenge!

Adrian is an amazing character. Stallone wrote her some of the best lines in the saga. In the first film when she has a fight with Paulie on Thanksgiving, the beach scene in III or the stairs scene in IV, she is fantastic in all those moments. But all of Talia Shire’s reactions during the fights are so genuine, she truly made Adrian come to life.

After 'John Carpenter's (hostile) The Thing' comes 'John Carpenter's (gentle) Starman'...

It's 'E.T.' for adults, with Karen Allen as 'Elliott'. She and Jeff Bridges have good chemistry, which is necessary because the movie hinges on their interactions.

Carpenter gets to show his tender side here—and while there's sentimentality, he exercises restraint, which I appreciated. If Spielberg had made it, it would've probably been much more syrupy.

The movie has the typical Carpenter feel and look. I believe that he could be given 100 million to work with, and it would still look low-budget... Only he could make raising a fleet of army choppers look unimpressive. lol

Oh, when watching the credits, I noticed that 3 special makeup effects legends—Dick Smith, Stan Winston, and Rick Baker—collaborated for the birth scene, which was cool.

7/10

It was nice seeing her again in Megalopolis. Probably the most expected face to show up.

I'm afraid to watch that film.

In time, it'll gain a cult following in the "so bad it's good" category.

Yeah, I think this is how I would rate them too.

By the way, I remember I hated the digital look of the fight scenes in Rocky Balboa. If only they were printed on 35mm like the rest of the film...

Do you also spend too much time in trying to decide what to watch?

I'm between Rocky V (to continue my Rocky marathon and try to finish my unwatched discs in my collection) or theatrical cut of Blade Runner.

Usually when I can’t decide between two films, I watch both.

Both? I can barely make it through one. :P I don't know.. Lately (I mean last couple of years) I fall asleep watching any movie! Even favorite ones!

Me too. :D

If I watch one of my favorites, I fall asleep because I know it so well that I lose interest. If I watch something for the first time, even a classic, I fall asleep because I find it boring. :)

And the worst thing is that by the time I get into bed, I wake up. :D

Welcome to Christmas. That’s right, time to get into the holiday spirit. You know, it really doesn’t take a genius to figure out how they could improve on this formula. Make them 20 minutes longer and cut 10% of the sappy stuff and possibly exclude children. Seriously, I really think there’s potential in these, but my three requirements need to be taken into account. Also, I’m sick of watching these in mono and sick of the lovely scores always being unreleased. Also also, how will a town celebrate Christmas all year round? Time to ask ChatGPT.

Did you like it?

Loved it. Saw it in the theatre when it was released, and have seen it multiple times since. Read Lorenzo Carcaterra’s book as well. But I didn’t see it today, it was just a joke on the “sleeping” comments. :)

I just saw Man with a Movie Camera (Человек с киноаппаратом, 1929, dir.: Dziga Vertov) 10/10

Sleepers was a hard movie for me to watch. To see all those kids suffering through horrible abuse and torture in the hands of cruel adults was... tough. I don't think I could ever watch it again.

To be fair, I only watched it because of John Williams.

The movie where Kevin Bacon rapes the kids.

You should write movie synopses for TV Guide.

Flicking through the channels tonight

That’s what I was talking about when I said too many options makes it hard to choose a film to watch these days. All five of these films are good, the top four are great.
