Love this film.

I've not seen VALMONT, but I can't imagine it being as good as this.

There are some YouTube clips of Alan Rickman as Valmont, in the original Hampton play.

I tried to watch VALMONT years ago but gave up, it was kind of boring.

Got the 4k steelbook, having seen this once and don't remembering much about it.

It was good, with a great Washington Oscar winning performance, but a bit overrated I'd say for 7.8 that it gets at imdb.

It’s a 10/10 film for me, Washington and Freeman, and even Broderick is great, and Horner’s score, though a bit repetitive, is fantastic. I love sentimental heroic films like GLORY.

Another best movie ever according to JWFan but I don't remember one thing about it.

Are we still talking about Glory?

Anyway, just finished this in 4k. I wish I could see all these Hitchcock films for the first time. They're great of course, but they don't have much of a replay value when you know the plot.

PSYCHO; no replay value?!

NORTH BY NORTHWEST; no replay value?!

REBECCA; no replay value?!

Come on, dude.

OK, yes, I watch them too other times and enjoy them, but it's not the thrilling suspense it is like in the first time!

Brandon Routh must have similar ancestry with Christopher Reeve.  My God, the timbre of his voice is uncannily similar. He looks like Reeve, he sounds like Reeve.  And he has charisma. I know Superman Returns had major problems, but none of that had to do with him.  Such a shame he didn’t get more films as Superman.

Oh, and this was an atypical Hallmark movie.  I liked it.  Not for Cat haters.  They made a sequel 7 years later.

I find his hair unrealistic and unrelatable.

Is it a significant improvement over the 2K?

The music, the script, the acting, the wit, the style...

Thanks for the comparison. It's definitely clearer, but I don't mind the minor softness of the blu.

The thing is these Alfred Hitchcock classics in 4k have horrible packaging!

I have seen 2 of these, and both froze and pixelated (while I had wiped them in the first place).

I took them out and wiped them again, and problem solved.

He also does a good villain.

Doing a Hallmark movie doesn't mean he's a villain. Oh, wait, it does!

How about playing a character that has a theme that sounds like the Imperial March?

It never is. There are so many films that I wish I could see for the first time. The question is: if I saw them now rather than when I first saw them, what would my reaction be?

Multiple viewings of films allow the viewer to take a "deep dive" into the narrative, and the film as a piece of art.

Andy, it's not too late for you. I'm prescribing an aggressive course of treatment—the entire 'John Wick' series.

Watch until completion. Don't stop halfway through, even if you're feeling better.

I’ve watched the first three I think.  Very enjoyable!

I actually really don't care for John Wick. Too darn violent. But it was the furthest thing from 'The Nine Lives of Christmas' I could think of. lol

I don’t like when it goes on a bit long and I feel like I’m watching someone play a video game.  But otherwise good revenge movies.

Rudy in 4K Steelbook. One of the greatest sports movies of all times if not the best. A genre JW could never tackle.

He already did.

28 Weeks Later (2007)

First half is okay, second half is really, really bad. My advice is to stick to 28 Days Later.

7/10 - It’s a variation to Bradbury’s FAHRENHEIT 451, combined with some Matrixy clothings. I would rank it lower if the original idea wasn’t so important: Individuality, diversity and empathy are the most important things that make us human.

I saw EQUILIBRIUM recently, and I agree with everything that you say, @Davis.

I'd add that I also got a 1984 vibe.

I liked the film, but it needed far more characterization.

A longer running length (say 130 minutes as opposed to 107 minutes) would have helped to develop themes and backgrounds. I really wanted to care about the people involved, but, despite its impressive design and look, I found myself observing rather than participating in the narrative.

5/10

You’re right. I forgot to mention 1984, but honestly almost every dystopian film depicts an orwellian totalitarian world. This film is 100% influenced by 1984 just like by Fahrenheit 451.

Viewed from a 35mm scan (and not that Fincher's 4k nonsense with his little fixes).

Haven't watched this since the VHS! I don't know why.

Masterpiece of course!

About the score: this was too atmospheric for my taste and went almost unnoticed in the course of the film (except the gut-wrenching finale) and I think that Shore's more thematic work on Silence of the Lambs, is much much better!

Hmm, so Seven is a masterpiece ... with a mediocre score? I guess the function of a score doesn't matter then!
