The film itself feels all over the place, without a plot with a purpose.. I don't know how to put it..

Although I don't love it, I still purchased the UHD.

The 4k restoration is exceptional in its video quality. But as far as audio is concerned, I don't now, my ears were hurt!

I watched it with the 5.1 mix (maybe I should have watched it with the stereo one) and often the dialogue was piercing to the ear..

By the way, the Queen song Who wants to live forever, should have been nominated for an Oscar!

This is one of the greatest fantasy dramas ever made. Michael Kamen + Queen = Awesomeness.

It’s incomprehensible that we still don’t have an official complete score release.

Not only that!

I see here there isn't even an ost on cd:

This is one of my holy grails.

There is a recent 5 1/2 hour 6-CD bootleg called “Complete Recording Sessions” available, but I haven’t heard it yet.

Yeah, I also run cooler towards this film than many here. The villain is pure camp, for one thing...

Some gorgeous cinematography in certain sections, though.

It's tremendous fun. The sequels are best avoided, especially Highlander 2.

Always intrigued me that there was a US network TV show, given that they're famously not too keen on decapitations and the like.

I watched that a lot as a kid. They had a way of always stragetically-obscuring the beheading.

I saw HIGHLANDER in London, early September, 1986.

I loved it then and I love it more, now.

Of course, since moving to where I now live (I'm due to drive right by Eilean Donan, in a few weeks), the film has taken on a whole new significance.

Exceptional, and I wonder how they did the special effects back then, but... what about that ending?

Didn't like it at all!

It wasn't a network show, it was syndicated

I suppose they'd still be under the same FCC restrictions, but not under additional restrictions by a network that cares about their advertisers.  Each market would basically have one channel that chose to syndicate it (or not) and find their own advertisers for it.

Legend leaps off the screen with sensational visuals.

But it has one of the dumbest scripts Scott ever deigned to pick up, and that's saying something!

With Legend, Ridley wanted to create a live action Disney movie. After being accused of being a director of cold movies, he wanted to prove that he could make a 'warm' movie too. Of course, we all know he only succeeded in that when he made Thelma & Louise.

Which is more than 99% of films today do. LEGEND is a perfectly crafted timeless fantasy spectacle that has one of the most beautiful scores ever written.

I think one of the things that makes the film feel empty to me is, we have a hero (regrettably in the guise of a young Tom Cruise but nevermind), a damsel in distress (a much better Mia Sara) and a villain who really wants to hit that (a superb Tim Curry).

But, while the villain is busy with the damsel, he at no point until the very end of the movie so much as even aware of our interpid hero.

Yeah. Of all the major 80’s fantasy flicks, Legend was by far the weakest. Almost impossible to get through. And Tom Cruise in that role was…a choice.

Beautiful cinematography & nice score though.

LEGEND is amazing. A timeless classic. Nobody can convince me otherwise, sorry. It’s not flawless by all means, but it has all the special ingredients that make it a magical experience.

Since it’s Top 5 week at JWFAN, Top 5 80's Fantasy Films

  1. Conan the Barbarian
  2. Excalibur
  3. Dragonslayer
  4. Ladyhawke (unfortunate score not withstanding)
  5. Willow

IMO Conan & Excalibur are two fantastic films in their own right. That is, outside of the genre of cheesy 80’s fantasy flicks.

Im not including Highlander, good as it is, because it doesn’t feel like a fantasy film in the way these are.

Honourable mention: Clash of the Titans; The Sword and the Sorcerer; Hawk the Slayer.

Best lost to time: Legend; Labyrinth; Krull.

I really like Dragonslayer. Super inventive movie, with an absolutely stand-out dragon.
