The last couple of Bond songs were pretty awful. They were geared toward the modern more sophisticated audience who doesn’t even like Bond.

I like this film a lot, contrary to most!

And I'm looking forward to a proper 4k release.

I haven't seen the other Colombus film that was released at the same time, but I've hear even worse!

I just watched it on YouTube.

The other one? Do you mean Carry on Columbus?

Callum Turner, apparently one of the Bond contenders

I just realized I was thinking of the wrong B-17 pilot. He's the other fellow.

So three movies, then? Must have been Columbus mania in 1992.

Sometimes I have no other choice, so I just take it.

I can't find where the seed links are kept.

Anyhow, the 1492 I watched on YouTube was good quality.

I think the first one is the best. 2 and 3 have their funny moments, but overall aren't as good. There food movies if you want something fun and undemanding

What's a food movie?  Like a movie to throw on while eating dinner or something?

Ooooooh, sorry. typo typo. Fingers go faster then my brain sometimes.

I mean that they're good movies if you want something fun and undemanding.

But actually in a way, food movies could also be a thing. They're good low stakes films to watch during dinner. Hahaha

To finish a year of celebrations, Home Alone 2 was released at the end of the year.

Well, it was OK I guess.

I expected something more.

By the way, I don't understand why Robert Sean Leonard didn't have any better career. And don't tell me that he's working etc., he just went into TV series all these last years. I just meant why he didn't have a Hollywood career in films. He was a promising actor (with this, Dead Poets Society and a couple of others I guess).

Also, in all these older films, I usually play a game with myself:

In very old films that there are main titles with music, I always try to guess the composer before he is shown on the credits.

Here we didn't have a main titles sequence with the cast and crew names, but I still tried to guess him from the cues in the film. Well, I found him alright, at 40 minutes approx. in a dramatic cue: James Horner.

It's funny how many composers have a distinctive style..

I watched Stephen Soderberg's disembodied camera movie called Presence, which plays out in gimmicky single shots seen and entirely from the ghost's POV. It's quite clever and original, but never creepy. I'm not sure if it was ever supposed to be scary, but surely any ghost story that isn't Casper should make one feel a bit uneasy, but it doesn't really happen. Anyway, it's not a bad little exercise in something different, but also not really worth the bother. Decent but instantly forgettable - the Soderberg touch.

Still need to rewatch The Limey.

It's among Soderberg's very best.

I saw it as a double bill, with SEXY BEAST.

Somehow, it made sense.

The Limey was quite good yeah. I think Sexy Beast was someone else though.

He looked a bit like Vincent. That could have been Linda Hamilton stood behind him.

He’s an excellent Bruce Wayne. Fuck is he hot. He has great hair and boy can he brood. His Batman isn’t anywhere near as intimidating as Keaton, but he’s still got great taste in women, a cool car and badass music playing while he outwits and kicks the shit out of these goons.

Draft Day

IMG_9590.jpeg

I’m now living in a different world than we were a couple hours ago.

Kevin Costner, Ivan Reitman’s last movie. Shit, this was good. My first time watching. As the forum’s perhaps only Costner fan, this is one of those flicks that came out in a time between his becoming box office poison and prior to his comeback on Yellowstone. A transitional period to say the least. Back when you’d be flicking through the movie channels, suddenly spot Costner in a romcom or something and go “Oh shit.” Chances are, whatever it was he was in wasn’t very good, but you still tuned in.

This one though? I’m sure NFL fans hate it. But man does he bring all the Costnerisms and gravitas. The supporting cast is great too. They set it all up for those of us who aren't die-hard football fans. You’ve got the underdog quarterback pick who is spotted in an expensive Diesel tee that I owned years ago but apparently it was made for buff guys, the coach played by Denis Leary who’s at odds with Costner, shit, Frank Langella as the team owner who never takes off his sunglasses.

This is Costner out of his baseball element but solid as all hell, decidedly still a flick for the guys and their dads, like Field of Dreams, Bull Durham and as much as I may be dating myself, 3,000 Miles to Graceland. Costner is a stone’s throw away from John Dutton. He rules in this. It may be a bit too talky and confusing to the average viewer at points, but Costner fans should be happy. All one of us here.

'Hiroshima mon amour' (1959)

Perfect film to watch alone in the wee hours, especially when the lovers start their seemingly endless night together.

It helped my appreciation that I understood French. And that I'd experienced Hiroshima, and the loneliness of wandering through a city arcade in Japan shuttered for the night after last call.

I wanted to watch this, but I thought it might be too depressing and I haven't yet.

Can French really be understood, though?
