filmmusic 2,245
Of course, now and then there are some recent films I like, like the Black Swan. This, felt a bit to me like an older film (maybe 80s, 90s). Also it had the grainy film look that I love..That's a curious thing to say, considering it was shot digitally.I didn't say that i dismiss every single film that isn't shot in 35mm. It's a combination of elements..Maybe it was Konstantos's TV.You got my name wrong. You mean his 20" monitor? It's 24''. And I'm watching it from 3 feet away.By the way, here's some screenshots of Black Swan.Ok, it may be digital but it looked like film to me..http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Black-Swan-Blu-ray/20029/#Screenshots
Koray Savas 2,254
I think you're confusing digital noise for film grain If you liked Black Swan, check out The Fountain. Very minimal CGI in that one, marvelous effects.

Very minimal CGI in that one, marvelous effects.I think 16mm creates interesting texture, especially if you expose it correctly. Harris Savides [ASC] is probably the master of it; he’s always pushing the negative so you can see it in a perfect way. One of my goals was to show the grain in a way that was craftsmanlike. I didn’t want it to look underexposed; I wanted it to look like it was a choice, and I think that comes across.http://www.alexandrosmaragos.com/2010/12/black-swan-canon-7d.htmlYes, I've seen the Fountain and of course I loved it! filmmusic 2,245
I watched the Right Stuff yesterday...I thought it would never end!Ok, it's a very good movie, but it could have been shorter. 193 minutes were too much I think for this kind of film..Also, I'm not sure if it would be nominated for a best picture Oscar, if it didn't exalt this American patriotic thing about the space-programme..In the cons of the movie for me, some comic moments with the vice president. As someone said, Dennis Quaid is really good but I'm not so sure about Shepard's Oscar nomination.Great production overall and special effects!! Especially the space orbits.(I wonder how they managed those without CGI).
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,435
You can say that about any film with space scenes before the 90's!Star Wars had no CGI, nor did 2001
publicist 4,647
The Debt: Watchable drama/thriller. Sorta like Munich but quite different. I admit, Nazi doctors creep me out. 6/10Though the historical/authenticicity anachronisms threw me off big time. East-german cars introduced in the early 80's are passed off as 1966 vehicles and such things....brrr.
Matt C 480
Never saw that one. Good score though. It is an interesting movie to match. The 1960s flashback scenes are more compelling than the 1990s scenes though.--I, FrankensteinWow, this is bad. The three main leads -- Aaron Eckhart, Miranda Otto, and Bill Nighy -- simply cash in, although Otto is the only one who manages to keep her dignity intact. Eckhart is saddled with some of the worse dialogue to deliver, and his facial expressions in the finale are downright hilarious. Nighy is just playing yet another villain, but without anything substantial -- he mostly comes off as a bore. The Rifftrax treatment might make this more palatable, but it's an awful experience all around. It's Underworld without the slick sense of fun -- or Kate Beckinsale-- for that matter. Koray Savas 2,254
SerenityIt was enjoyable but the characters took a huge backdrop to the overarching story Whedon was trying to cram in. Less frontier and more Alliance controlled territory made it seem like it forgot what the show was about, the New West. Wash's death was handled horribly and pointless. Inara and Kaylee were useless, and both actresses lost too much weight. Bring back the curves! David Newman's score had a couple highlights but was otherwise forgettable and didn't achieve what Edmonson was able to do with the show.
A24 4,596
Well, it's a lot more enjoyable when you see the film after you've seen the show (which I didn't do). Alex

publicist 4,647
I don't know if that actually would help that much. Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,260
The Adventures of TintinThis was a delightful romp, with both Spielbergian and Jacksonian sensibilities shining through, with great writing and voice casting. More than a few moments of genuine laugh-out-loud humor. Snowy is adorable. Except for the colorfully fun opening title cue, John's score is, well, present. I do have to say that it was a very oddly paced film. Not bad by any means, but different. The Dark Knight TrilogyWell, you know. Damn. What a fantastic piece of cinema. Quintus 5,460
I've had All is Lost sat there for a fortnight waiting to be watched because I love these lost without hope movies and this one looks terrific, especially being at sea! Really need to find more time to watch movies. Lego's, terrific film, really not at all what I expected.I've been reading in various places about how it's the funniest movie of the year so far, but I really can't envision myself sitting down to watch a Lego movie. And after the completely unfunny but hugely hyped Wreck it Ralph it's a case of once bitten twice shy.
Quintus 5,460
The Edge, for the umpteenth time. Hopkins and Baldwin were fantastic in this, and then there's Goldsmith's sweeping wilderness of a main theme (which really should have been the journey music in LotR), just beautiful. And of course Bart the bear, who is fucking terrifying in this thoroughly ace adventure. 5/

Muad'Dib 1,874
Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion (1981)My God, every movie I watch makes me fall in love with Italian cinema even more. What an intriguing, thought-provoking and masterfully shot this movie was. The subjects it touches upon are very familiar to us argentinians in particular as it is quite similar to what would happen here when the military took over power by force.Apart from that, it raises very legitimate issues regarding power and the abuse of that power. It feels extremly contemporary, there's a lot of stuff that I can relate to what's going on here right now, truly an eye-opener.I don't have much to say but I can say that the film left me thinking so much; I love films that can do that. Also I should remark how well-shot and acted this film was. The italians sure know how to shot a film.9/
