Recommended Posts

List your current 5 or 10 favorite actresses of today :) and the movies from which you like them best. So not only because of looks (therefore we have another thread) but really because of acting qualities, versatility, screen presence, etc.

1) Jodie Foster (Anna and the King)

2) Claire Danes (Stardust)

3) Hillary Swank (The Core)

4) Amanda Seyfried (Dear John)

5) ...

actually for some reason it is more difficult to come up with good actresses than good actors...

We all know who my favorite actress is. Unfortunately she has never really been in a good movie. The best movie she has been in is probably Cant' Hardly Wait but she has a very small role. I Know What You Did Last Summer is probably her best movie.

I will watch anything with Natalie Portman. Garden State was a good movie for her.

Sarah Michelle Gellar in Cruel Intentions.

Elizabeth Banks is good. I liked her as that crazy girl in 40 Year Old Virgin.

I cant think of anymore. Definitely a lot easier to do with actors.

Famke Janssen (X-Men)

Amanda Tapping (Stargate Atlantis)

Favorite actresses (in no particular order)

Maggie Smith (only really familiar with her from Hook and the Harry Potter movies, but she's always a pleasure to watch)

Judi Dench (Enjoyed her in everything I've seen her in, which is mostly Bond films)

Naomi Watts (She seems to give her all into to every role she does)

Kate Winslet (Ditto)

Anna Torv (She has been INCREDIBLE on Fringe this season and last playing 2 versions of the same character)

Chloë Moretz (absolutely terrific in Let Me In and Kick-Ass)

Claire Danes (loved her in My So Called Life and then she's done mostly bad movies since, but Homeland seems good from the previews)

Jennifer Aniston (She is great in small indie movies, and usually manages to rise above mediocre screenplays other times... I haven't seen any of her recent bombs though)

Natalie Portman (Continually gives good performances, independent of how strong the film is)

Hottest Actresses (in no particular order):

Christina Hendricks (Hubba hubba!)

Miracle Laurie (Somebody hire this woman again please!)

Jennifer Connelly (In her prime - before she got too skinny)

Scarlett Johansson (Vicki Cristina Barcelona and He's Just Not That Into You... wow!)

Evangeline Lilly (LOST pilot....)

Jennifer Love Hewitt (She needs a better agent!)

Jennifer Garner (In the Alias/Daredevil days... where has she been since?)

Carla Gugino (Still as hot now as she was in the Son In Law days!)

I like Naomi Watts.

She is very talented, and also one of the most beautiful actresses ever.

I am struck by how you and i seem to have the same taste.

She's gorgeous. I could watch Mulholland Dr continually just for her performance

Have you guys seen "Fair Game" yet? I think she delivers one of her best perfomances in this movie. Oh, and she's in her early 40s now and still drop dead gorgeous!

Haven't seen it yet. Was the overall film good?

It was quite solid. I would give it 4,5 out of 5.

A spy thriller based on actual events, and it had me on the edge of my seat all the way through. Sean Penn was great too, by the way. Here's the trailer, if you haven't seen it yet:

________

By the way, isn't Naomi Watts' American accent flawless?

She is actually British, with strong ties to Australia. You would never know she wasn't American!

I've got a soft spot for Mary Steenburgen, a very elegant, natural actress. Diane Wiest is another. Susan Sarandon. Understated poise and refinement I find very appealing in an actress. Naomi Watts is on course to join such a calibre.

Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster, people like that... they're a bit too showy for me. That's not to say they haven't got the chops, because they clearly do.

I almost bought the other day in the store...but first wanted to check the imdb score. I am now convinced to get it!

Since I'm too lazy to think of names myself I'll borrow a bit

Sigourney Weaver (Alien and Aliens)

Chloë Moretz ( Let Me In and Kick-Ass)

Claire Danes (liked her in Shop Girl)

Natalie Portman (The Professionnal, The Phantom Menace,Garden State and Black Swan )

Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation)

Evangeline Lilly (LOST, she was center stage in some of the more emotional episodes)

Emma Watson . She was best in HPSS, PoA and Deathly Hallows Part.1 .Kind of wallpaper in the other films

Jessica Lange in King Kong (before she learned to act,in terms of hotness)

Michelle Pfiffer in Batman Returns

Ellen Page in Hard Candy and Juno

Rachel McAdams

Jodi Foster in Contact and Silence of the Lambs

Megan Fox is hot but looks too much like a porn actress

Dakota Fanning (only good thing in the Twilight films)

Julie Christie - "Doctor Zhiavgo"/"Don't Look Now"/"Away From Her"

Great choice. Away from Her is fantastic (even if its portrayal of the progression of Alzheimer's is distorted).

I'd say my favourite actress is Katherine Hepburn!

I've seen 18 films of hers, and she never fails to impress me with her acting.

I'm planning on seeing her complete filmography.

I think in Bringing Up Baby she is an apocalypse!

I've seen her in a few things outside Buffy, including television shows, and it seems she was only any good on Buffy.

Yeah. I like her and all, but I can't buy her as anything other than rogue Slayer Faith.

You could cast her as sultry femme fatales, but she wasn't impressive in Tru Calling or Dollhouse (but she looked HOT in that dominatrix outfit).
