New entry in Collaborations and other appearances section :

2013

We'll Paint You a Rainbow

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Williams_discography#Collaborations_and_other_appearances

New entries in the Concert Works section :

2009
Escapades, concerto for alto saxophone & orchestra
American Spectrum (Branford Marsalis and the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra conducted by Grant Llewellyn, Digital Release)

Not a digital release only. I have the hybrid CD/SACD on my hands right now :)

2013

Three Pieces for Solo Cello

Composing Without The Picture (Richard Harwood, Solo Cello)

On the other hand, this is indeed a digital release only.

2013

American Journey
American Journeys (Kenneth W. Megan Jr./U.s. Coast Guard Band)

Not the original Williams version, but an arrangement for band by Paul Lavender -- and likely approved by Williams himself, who has talked highly of Lavender.

2013
Concerto for tuba & orchestra
Music For Blue Days (Eirik Gjerdevik, Tuba)
2013
Escapades, concerto for alto saxophone & orchestra
Intrinsic Versatility (Miles Osland, Clarinet; Miles Osland, Flute; Vince DiMartino, Flugelhorn;
Vince DiMartino, Trumpet); Raleigh Dailey, Piano); Miles Osland, Saxophone)
Escapades, concerto for alto saxophone & orchestra

Do you have more info on those two?

Thanks, simply added "Original Star Wars Themes" instead of specifing each one of them. Same for Harry Potter.

Thanks, will check them out now :)

Love the www.arkivmusic.com website, very well organized.

New entries in the "Soundtracks conducted by others" section, including "Wagon Train".

There maybe others, but I will need you help on that!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Williams_discography#Soundtracks_conducted_by_others

I think it was Jeff Eldridge who said that THE VIRGINIAN contains no original music by Williams, but rather some tracked music from WAGON TRAIN (probably the ubiquitous "Tomorrow" track).

Well, these works have very few interest for me. You know, if Williams never recorded them himself since that time...

However, more details here about this soundtrack :

http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/title/19262/

I know I'll be getting the Tuba Concerto recording -- yet another one... As for the Escapades arrangement, will have to listen more carefully to the samples.

Anyway, thank you for bringing them to my attention.

I usually stick to recommended versions... these are not :-)

There is also this entry that I've added to the Selective discography of his works recorded by other artists section :

2013

La Creation Du Monde, Christian Lindberg conducting The Swedish Wind Ensemble.

It contains a Suite that is not exactly "Escapades", but a new arrangement by Jay Bocock, inspired from the movie itself.

It's a CD recommended by arkivmusic.com.

Details here : http://www.eclassical.com/shop/17115/art81/4741081-603b49-BIS-1640_booklet.pdf

OK, but you might change the 'some score tracks composed by Williams' into 'some tracks from WAGON TRAIN' or similar. Or perhaps not include it at all, since it has no original Williams music.

This is a transcription for saxophone and band, instead of orchestra, and sadly a bit truncated. Great recording all the same and I would highly recommend it, not only for the Williams, but some really great repertoire.

New entry in the Concert Works :

1975

Thomas And The King (Musical) 1975

1981 - Thomas And The King (Orchestrations by Herbert W. Spencer, Conducted by Ian Macpherson); Reissued in 1998, Jay Records.

Music by John Williams, Lyrics by James Herbert, Book by Edward Anhalt.

Moved "None But the Brave" to the Collab & appearances section, as John Williams plays the piano on a Bonus Track of the FSM CD.

Same thing for "The Bronze Locust", the entry "TV Omnibus: Volume One" was already there in this section, as it's a score conducted by Williams.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Williams_discography#Collaborations_and_other_appearances

Well, finally it remains only four entries in Soundtracks conducted by others. :)

I think you mean James Harbert. As terrifying as some of the songs in Thomas and the King are, James Herbert had nothing to do with them.

By the way I've added infos about the 1998 revised Violon Concerto.

I've noticed that Slatkin recorded the work two times, originally in 1983 [EDIT], and again in 2011 (surely using the revised version)

Slatkin's first recording is from the early 80's, not 1992 (that's the CD release date).

Right, 1983, Fixed too.

Do you know the recording year of the Clarinet Concerto Recording with Zukovsky?

This is really nice work. I had heard that JW's first film score was a documentary when he was in the air force. This would put it around 1952 or so.

1953 or 1954, rather (after he transferred to Pepperell Air Force base). This has never had a release, however, neither film nor score -- so it wouldn't be eligible for Bespin's project.

Just realized the existence of this entry in the disco, I have to download it now, John Williams plays the piano on that!

2006

Sayuri's Theme –
A Dream Discarded –
Going to School –
Interview with John Williams & Yo-Yo Ma. Sony Classical iTunes

Added this compilation in the "Appearances" section :

Including Going to School composed and accompanied on the piano by John Williams; Sony Classical, Compilation.

Yes, it is. It's the only classical album recording he ever made as a pianist.

Well, just added to the Wiki disco.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Williams_discography#Collaborations_and_other_appearances

Performance qualified as "too-safe" by allmusic.com, maybe it's why it's his first and last classical CD!

Anyway, need to find this!

Added two compilations of Joshua Bell and Jessye Norman + some reeditions of their albums.

Really need to find that boxset, never heard these Boston Pops albums :

The Jessye Norman albums are somewhat of an acquired taste -- I've always felt that way when opera singers sing traditional showstoppers of this type.

Damnit, where have I heard that before? Could it be a track from a soundtrack, rearranged by Previn? I have a different version in my collection, but can't for the sake of me remember where. Help! :)

I was finally checking this, and the Tuba Concerto disc does not includes the John Williams work, but rather Ralph Vaughan Williams' one.

So much for Arkiv being a reliable source...

Nice to see a version of the tuba concerto not performed by a Norwegian soloist (don't get me wrong, I like that, but it's odd that my countrymen have recorded the most versions of this). I'll probably not be getting it, as I don't need a hundred different versions of the same concerto when I already have one I'm pleased with, but I like the initiative. Now to get the soloists to record the UNRELEASED concerti, or a clarinetist to do a new version of the clarinet concerto.

That's cool. Are you also in charge of the JW wikipedia page? It's in need of urgent refurbishing. The Duo Concertante belongs in the chamber music category, and there is no "Concerto" category, despite the fact that it's been the musical form widely, but not exclusively, employed by JW. The nomenclature "Solo Instrument and Orchestra" is more widely accepted.
