Quintus 5,391
I've just been looking into buying this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Film-Music-Jerry-Goldsmith/dp/B00005BC6G but after reading elsewhere that Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops have recorded some of what's on the Goldsmith album even better than the man did himself (with the LSO), I'm keen to know the name of the Kunzel album in question, and any others you recommend.Cheers. Gruesome Son of a Bitch 6,476
Both Star Tracks are my favorites. Most of his best recordings are in the 80s and early 90s. His albums from that period are all worth checking out (and dirt cheap).
Omen II 1,088
Although Erich Kunzel recorded a lot of Goldsmith selections (some of them duplicates of those on the LSO CD you linked above), they are spread across several different albums. There are some excellent Goldsmith tracks on Fantastic Journey (which could just as easily be called Fantastic Album) and I would recommend it unreservedly. Most of the tracks on it were unavailable when the CD came out, so it was a real godsend to folk like us. Here is the link:http://www.amazon.co...28968307&sr=8-2Both Star Tracks are my favorites.Seconded, but there are plenty of other good ones. For instance, I find myself coming back to their brilliant Henry Mancini album quite a lot. Thor 5,273
My favourite -- and really the only one I have a connection to -- is the FANTASY ADVENTURE album. Introduced me to some smokin' hot scores in the 90's. It wasn't actually I who bought it, but a then-friend of mine, and I copied his CD to cassette. Got a lot of plays back in the day. I later purchased the STAR TREK CD, which was also fine. But I could be without all those annoying sound effects.
Greg1138 2
I haven't yet come across a bad Kunzel album....Star Tracks, Fantasty Adventure album....Time Warp (probably my favourite).....Kunzel recorded enough Goldsmith to fill a CD by itself - see here - http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=75797&forumID=1&archive=

Jay 27,216
As many others have said, The Great Fantasy Adventure Album is absolutely terrific. One of the most plays CDs of my youth
Greg1138 2
Another one - "Mega Movies" - just flows well as a listening experience....great performances from the orchestra, and a brilliant recording of Main Title and Flag Parade from Phantom Menace.....Golldsmith nicely represented on there with The Mummy, Air Force One and LA Confidential. I have not heard the SACD release of this, but I hear it is quite something.
