It was really literally a million to one shot signing Howard to score the LotR trilogy.

The whole project was, but that especially.

That was probably because both, Peter Jackson and Shore have both a background of brillant cheap horror movies that bound them together.

Just listening to M Butterfly. That is a great score to listen to.

Well, I just discovered that building an Howard Shore basic CD collection will be hard... some of his CDs are simply too rare and already hard to find.

Ed Wood remastered 2013 CD, Hugo, The Aviator... :(

The Aviator is a very good score and isn't hard to find for a good price. I recently purchased a new and sealed copy for less than £10, including shipping.

The remastered Ed Wood doesn't contain anything essential, I'd say.

Hugo just isn't that good, even though I wanted to like it.

You can always go the compilation route instead. While I have a handful of Shores in my collection, I'm interested in this comp from Universal:

Inspired by the rare CD (I don't have it) "The Essential Howard Shore", I tried to reproduced it, well, with the CDs I actually have!

NICE!!!!

Addition of the Hobbit trilogy to my collection.

It's beginning to look like a real Howard Shore CD collection!

But you are definitely missing out on some important stuff (if it isn't already in that upper shelf):

  • The Fly
  • M Butterfly
  • A Dangerous Method

For the Cronenberg scores I would call these quite essential.

In addition I got "The Cell" and "Videodrome" and " "eXistenZ" which are probably the opposite of essential.

Videodrome needs a reissue I think... The Fly too, it seems OOR*.

I'm on the other ones!

I'd say the most essential missing from Bespin's collection are Looking for Richard, The Yards, and The Cell. The Cell in particular might not be to everyone's taste, but I find it magnificent, in its way.

Anyway, I am jealous on your CDs of Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch and Crash.

Luckily, they are available in Spotify.

I've got that one, and I'd be willing to sell it to Bes for €30 + shipping.

I wouldn't part from it for less than €3000! Though at that price I would offer the shipping fees.

I wonder why Howard Shore does not conduct concerts of LOTR music not even in the USA.

I would love to see him conducting some orchestra with this music.

Looks like you're missing the longer versions of the Hobbit OSTs, and the Complete Recordings editions of the LOTR scores

I can wait for proper expansions.

Do I have the best Howard Shore CD collection here, yes or not?

You don't have THE FLY, SPIDER, or MAPS TO THE STARS, so...no, you don't :lick:

@Bespin

Don't worry Bes. I'm sure you'll have them soon... along with M. BUTTERFLY, and EDGE OF DARKNESS.

Is that Mimzy score any good?

Yes. The last two cues - The Tear/Through the Looking Glass - are great. It’s Shore’s subdued version of the E.T. finale.

The less said about the song the better.

I recently discovered that "Nobody's Fool", a movie I don't recall, had an expansion... So I ordered it.

I ordered it with Sliver too... as not many Howard Shore scores were expanded... and I'm canadian like Howard Shore... so why I don’t encourage him a little?

A very short movie made by the National Film Board of Canada in 2011, for those who never saw it.

I'm jealous of his "Office"!

I think it's a trophy he won for his latest double-album "Music Inspired by Dune, vol. 9".

He's unstoppable!

We can laught at Zimmer, but before writing, let's say, more ambient "generic" music, he wrote totally respectable big orchestral scores for many many years.

Is it true that Howard Shore is co composing the Brad Pitt movie “Bullet Train” with Dominic Lewis? Shore’s Wikipedia lists the film in his filmography but I haven’t seen it announced anywhere. Does anyone know the truth?

I think Mrs. Doubtfire and She-Devil should be added to any Shore compilation :)
