Koray Savas 2,255 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Hopefully one day it'll get a deluxe treatment from the labels, maybe with Kamen's score.I finally received the three Morricone scores I ordered from SAE back in December. One was on backorder from Italy.Duello Nel TexasTepepaQueimada
Muad'Dib 1,997 Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 I hate using this word, but this is pretty damn epic. Sounds like a cross between Giu la Testa and Once Upon a Time in the West but without the electric guitar, specially when than awesome chorus kicks in!
Once 974 Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Has anybody seen or heard The Best Offer? I'm looking forward to it!
Muad'Dib 1,997 Posted March 17, 2013 Author Posted March 17, 2013 Another unknown gem:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJgm8WTa-pgI'm really surprised Quentin didn't use it in Basterds or Django, it would have been perfect for both and added a little thematic continuity with the Fur Elise inclusion. But still, fantastic piece. I'm finding myself bumping into lots of great unknown Morricone stuff. The list is endless.
Koray Savas 2,255 Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 It's hard to go wrong with any of his westerns. I think I own/have heard most of them. The list of hidden gems is endless for everything else.
Jay 43,908 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Ennio has won his 9th David Donatello award, the Italian equivalent to the Oscar, for the film "The Best Offer"http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tornatores-best-offer-takes-top-569318
Koray Savas 2,255 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Wow hadn't hear of this film before. Need to see if a soundtrack was released.Italy only! Time to import. They charge 10 euros for shipping though, damn! Amazon UK only has it digitally.
crocodile 9,352 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Ennio turns 85 today! Karol - who cannot wait for the concert in a couple of months
Incanus 5,882 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Happy Birthday to maestro Ennio Morricone!
Koray Savas 2,255 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Happy birthday to the greatest film composer! Muad'Dib and Code 000. Destruct. 0. 2
crocodile 9,352 Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 This new expanded edition of Lolita looks very interesting indeed. I haven't got this score and it's tempting for me to buy it.Is it an essential?Karol
Muad'Dib 1,997 Posted November 26, 2013 Author Posted November 26, 2013 I've fallen in love with this
Muad'Dib 1,997 Posted November 27, 2013 Author Posted November 27, 2013 The Maestro will be on LA, guys. I wish I could go!http://www.axs.com/events/245467/ennio-morricone-tickets
Jay 43,908 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Hey Koray, another Morricone CD is on the wayhttp://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=102864&forumID=1&archive=0
Koray Savas 2,255 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Thanks for the heads up, but there is almost always another Morricone CD on the way. The Italian labels churn them out like crazy. There are few on the old Verita Note label that I would like rereleased at affordable price points, but I've more or less bought all the ones I actively want.I check SAE every now and then to see what's new. Their "New Releases" tab for each label is really helpful.
Herosix 1 Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Now my favorite EM score (one of the top 5) is The Mission suiteI don't find that The Mission Suite is one of his best composition.I prefer Once Upon a Time in the West.
Muad'Dib 1,997 Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 Holy cow! Another unknown masterpiece... I ADORE that glorious passage at 1:32. It's totally Stravinsky's Firebird! (with a bit of baroque in the middle) And I mean it in the best way, it's obvious a concious reference and one that probably makes sense in the context of the movie. I wish it went on forever and ever. I love Morricone in spiritual mode.
Jay 43,908 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Another Morricone CD for you Korayhttp://www.quartetrecords.com/la-monaca-di-monza.html
Koray Savas 2,255 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Hmm, La Califfa was recently issued by GDM, I think. I have some version of it, but it doesn't look like the tracks match up with what's on here.
Muad'Dib 1,997 Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 I love this piece, almost baroque-sounding. It's simply too gorgeous:
crocodile 9,352 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 This is currently one of my favourite Morricone pieces (especially after 4:00 mark). Karol
Omen II 1,293 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Has anyone else been to any of Morricone's concerts on his current My Life In Music tour? The one at the O2 Arena in London on Thursday was fantastic. I was especially thrilled to see and hear Nanni Civitenga, who played the memorable bass guitar parts in one of my favourite Morricone scores Frantic, guesting with the Czech National Orchestra. Here is a clip of Chi Mai from Le Professionel, which opened the second half.
crocodile 9,352 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Yes, we talked a bit about it here.Karol
Muad'Dib 1,997 Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 Morricone has composed a Mass for Pope Francis, you can check out the whole thing starting here, the last movement contains excerpts from The Mission Quite amazing.
Bespin Copilot 10,069 Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 I dont know Morricone very much (The Mission and the formidable Yo-yo Ma album) but I place it at the exact same level as John Williams. I dont think one is better than the other, because they are soooooo different.Definitely, two of the greatests. But I'm too young to have any affective link with the movies Morricone scored and finally his music in general. When I ask my husband, who is 8 years older than me, he says Morricone is better than Williams :-)
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,261 Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Looking forward to listening to that mass. Thanks for sharing.
Koray Savas 2,255 Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 When I ask my husband, who is 8 years older than me, he says Morricone is better than Williams :-)He's right! Bespin Copilot 1
JoeinAR 1,955 Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 He's not right. John is the greatest ever. Better than all those before him, even JG who is better than all before him. Not Mr. Big 1
JoeinAR 1,955 Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 He's better than either of those gentlemen. It should not come as a surprise for someone at the John Williams site to proclaim him the greatest of all time. He is that good. Excuse me Great. Not Mr. Big 1
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,261 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Yeah, that mass is really fascinating.
Muad'Dib 1,997 Posted September 17, 2015 Author Posted September 17, 2015 Holy shit, Il Forte live! Sounds soooo damn goood.
mrbellamy 7,623 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Ennio Morricone will score Terrence Malick's Voyage of Time Muad'Dib and Once 2
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,261 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Ennio Morricone will score Terrence Malick's Voyage of TimeThat's fucking excellent, hot damn!
Koray Savas 2,255 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Superb news, but it's always shameful when an article can't get a simple fact straight. How are we supposed to trust the news being reported?Terrence Malick hasn't always had the easiest time with composers. James Horner had spoken out loudly on multiple occasions about his difficulties during the making of "The Thin Red Line," and going all the way back to the director's sophomore feature, "Days Of Heaven," the legendary Ennio Morricone admitted it wasn't always an easy process working on that movie.
mrbellamy 7,623 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I agree, it's annoying. I think it's in their rush to be first they don't bother fact-checking whatever they're writing down, probably mostly from memory or hasty Googling.Proof is here, though, as they linked in the article. Under the Cast/Crew tab: http://www.wildbunch.biz/movie/voyage-of-time/
filmmusic 2,763 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I would love if Williams scored this!I think it would get us back to a Close Encounters type of score. (balanced mixture of atonal, impressionistic, classical, romantic etc.)
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,261 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I'd love it even more if Ennio Morricone scored this. Muad'Dib and Koray Savas 2
