wanner251 17
Hmmm... one set of films that seems to get overlooked in the golden age is the very prolific world of early Disney animation. Films like Pinocchio and Dumbo are definite contenders in the score department. True some of the Disney films take the shape of musicals, but I do find the scores to be quite unique, especially since many of them were written and/or orchestrated by people who were also great songwriters. Also, who could possibly forget Carl Stalling and the Warner Bros. Cartoons?
TheHouseholdCat 4
Now that we are asking recommendations, what scores would people recommend from Alfred Newman, the man who people so often talk as the great master of the genre. I have to admit I am far more versed in the younger generation of Newmans than their father. He's someone I have to check out at one point. My knowledge of films from the Golden Age is so limited it's embarrassing.Newman and Herrmann are definitely on my to-do list. And now I guess Miklós Rózsa, too.
