Michael Kamen is back with a vengeance at La-La Land Records with this spectacular 2 cd set brought to you courtesy of Sony Music and 20th Century Fox . Literally years in the making, this explosive set features over 2 hours of music written and recorded for the third film in the Die Hard franchise. The soundtrack that was released back in 1995 only contained only a fair amount of score, songs and some classical cues that were not ever featured in the final film. This newly expanded release gives the fans what they have been clamoring for…and then some. Not only are we releasing the score as written for the film, but also several rejected tracks never heard until now. If you are fan of high octane, action packed scoring this is a must have release!

La-La Land Records, 20th Century Fox and Sony Music present the remastered and expanded 2-CD release of renowned composer Michael Kamen’s (DIE HARD, LETHAL WEAPON, MR. HOLLAND’S OPUS, THE IRON GIANT) full-throttle orchestral score to the 1995 Twentieth Century Fox blockbuster DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE, starring Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Irons, directed by John McTiernan. Long overdue, Michael Kamen’s final, sensational DIE HARD score comes roaring back to life in an explosive deluxe version that runs over 2 full hours, greatly expanding its original 1995 soundtrack release with a new presentation worthy of the composer’s masterful work. Kamen’s score is presented here as initially composed for the film, giving listeners a chance to hear material that was ultimately not used in the final version of the movie. Produced by Nick Redman and Mike Matessino, produced for Sony Music by Didier C. Deutsch, and mastered by Mike Matessino, this special release is limited to 4000 units and features plentiful bonus tracks as well as exclusive, in depth liner notes by film music writer Jeff Bond. Also included is the classic rocker that kicks off the film, “Summer in the City” by The Lovin’ Spoonful. As only John McClane and any film music fan would say… Yippee Ki Yay...!

From the LLL email

Note that LLL will not have their stock of Home Alone 2 and The Untouchables in until Thursday night / Friday morning, so if you order either of those along with Die Hard 3 or the Trek box (both of which they already have in stock), your entire order won't ship until Friday. So if you want Die Hard 3 or the Trek Box right away, order them separately from Home Alone 2 and/or The Untouchables.

It was an error because of the email was sent a bit to soon. MV posted on FSM saying that Die Hard 3 and the Star Trek TOS set will ship today. If Die Hard 3 was ordered along with either Home Alone 2 and or The Untouchables then it won't ship out until Friday.

Jay, La La Land's front page also says Die Hard 3 won't ship until December 7 either.

I know, the email and website is wrong. Its shipping today.

I ordered mine just about the minute it went up for sale.. My copy shipped Friday Dec 7 (according to the timestamp on the package... I NEVER received an email that it had shipped) and I received it here on on the east cost on Monday Dec 10.

Die Hard 3 is easily the best of the Die Hard scores

Agreed!

My copy from MM won't be here until tomorrow. All though I may not be home by the time the mail gets here since my friend Joe is coming up from Vegas to pick me up for my trip Saturday.

At least though I'm hearing it by other means...and I agree it's the best of the bunch.

KM I hope you've at least given the Die Hard scores, especially 2 and 3 a chance.

I think they're all great. But the best listen is definitely Die Hard 2. The third one does offer some new cool music but then again a lot of it, particularly the final action cue, is lifted directly from the second one. But then again that score expands upon the material from the first one.

So Disc 1 is in Gracenotes but Disc 2 isn't? This is happening more and more with multiple disc releases.

The first Die Hard is the best film amd score.

Kinda underwhelmed after listening to this release. The newer / unreleased material isn't as interesting and the recycling of music from DH & DH 2 is a bit more than the last film.

Still greatly appreciate LaLaLand for releasing this.

Not sure if this has been asked before...

Could anyone clarify what's what on this album? Apparently, some track are out of order and I have no idea what some of the bonus cues even are. Any breakdown would be appreciated.

"Wall Street Station" is a re-recording of "Police First Fired On" from Die Hard 1 that was tracked into the film in a few spots, most noticeably replacing some of Kamen's original intentions for the "Taxi Chase" cue

Totally agreed. It's kinda nuts that we finally got perfect expansions of all 3 Die Hard scores and none of them have track by track analysises. Maybe someone is working on a book or something?

No track-by-track analyses? Wow. Disappointing. I wonder whether skill or time was lacking if they couldn't provide them for these scores. Those can be very enlightening , especially in cases where the original score was tinkered like with Die Hard 3.

Well the space is also limited on these releases for liner notes and with so many tracks detailed examination might not even be feasible in all cases.

E.g. LLL releases like Masters of the Universe and Independence Day would have really benefited from a detailed examination of the music track-by-track but alas they chose to highlight other aspects in the liner notes so we got interviews interspersed with facts and background info on the film. This is probably because the writers for those didn't feel they were competent to write on the scores in a semi-academic analytic style. But I guess it is always a choice of how to approach the liner notes of any given release and the preferences of the writers.

Gentleman, I am not talking about a Doug Adams like treatment. Just a brief description for every track. Where in the film it plays, and if it was cut or edited etc...

Die Hard has that. It also has an extensive amount of pages detailing aspects of the production that have nothing to do with the score.

Die Hard 2: Die Harder and Die Hard With A Vengeance do not have a track-by-track analyses.

Ditto - anyone familiar enough with this to provide a breakdown, esp. of the bonus tracks?

Horner did well that year though. 3 major films in top-10 grossing movies list. Johnny's Nixon barely made the top-100.

But what a fantastic year for film scores if you just look at that top 100 domestic grosses.
