Michael Giacchino's Star Trek Into Darkness

Out of all the First Contact alternates that didn't make the final GNP CD, which ones do you think are the most interesting?

I think there was only two (don't remember what they were) alternates not included but there wasn't much orchestration difference compared to the others that are actually on the CD release.

So to summarize, like WOK, nothing of significance missing.

Personally, I would LOVE to have the Epilogue and End Credits without Spock's monologue for WOK.

As for the Battle in the Mutara Nebula cue, I look at that as a correction rather than a true alternate.

Some nice unreleased bits of music (Deluxe Edition?) playing as background music on http://www.startrekmovie.com/

Working on getting downloads out! Admiral Marcus' theme everywhere!

UPDATE: downloads.paramount.com/mp/advertising/startrek2/media/audio/ [insert 01 to 06] .mp3

01 (0:39) is from Sub Prime Directive on the OST

02 (0:51) is UNRELEASED - Feature's Marcus' Theme around 0:45

03 (0:27) is the end of Pranking The Natives from the OST

04 (0:21) is UNRELEASED - nice statement of Marcus' Theme

05 (0:41) is also Sub Prime Directive from the OST

06 (0:17) is UNRELEASED - Marcus's Theme again! With the Enterprise Theme too

89 seconds of unreleased music in shitty quality is still better than nothing!

SPOILERS for film placements:

04 is the Enterprise's reveal in the space dock

06 is the establishing shot of Starfleet HQ before that fateful emergency session...

I like Marcus' theme but can't help thinking Giacchino had heard Starship Troopers not long before writing it :P

Another 2 new unreleased cues - variations on Marcus' Theme - from http://www.defeatkhan.com/ (game to promote the US digital release of the film today)

http://www.defeatkhan.com/sounds/backgroundmusic.m4a

(right-click save as)

BTW, whenever you get the chance, check out the "enhanced commentary" version of the film what comes with the iTunes download. VFX breakdown, full-screen IMAX scenes, funny annotations by the crew and...more from Giacchino!

With the film coming out on blu ray soon, I'll be sure to go through everythign and figure out where to place all these unreleased bits.

Thanks again so much for finding this and pointing it out for us!

No problem Jason, maybe get the iTunes version that's out now? ;) that extended commentary version will not be on Blu-ray...

For placements...

First part is when Scotty is at the S31 shipyard near Jupiter and he goes "hoooly sh..."

Second I think is when Carol speaks to her father before being transported to the USS Vengeance

It's kinda interesting that all the unreleased music that has leaked cleanly so far features Marcus's Theme. It's like THE main theme of the score, amazing they were able to assemble an OST that only had it in there once.

I ain't gonna bother to start ripping STID music from the film itself until I have access to the lossless blu ray 7.1 track.

Have to say, judging by the audio track on the iTunes release, it's gonna be very difficult to cleanly extract the music - a lot of SFX in different channels, and instruments broken up across channels as well like the first film.

Here's something you guys might find interesting. I pulled these titles off ASCAP's database:

ADMIRAL EXPOSITION
ASTRONOMICAL MANHUNT A
ASTRONOMICAL MANHUNT B
CHAIR OF COMMAND
CHIEF CONCERN
COVERT CAROL
CRY YOUR HEART OUT
DAMAGE CONTROL
DEMOTION EMOTION
GALACTIC ROAD TRIP
GO GET 'EM
GUN'S DOWN
HALLWAY FIGHT
HARRISON BROUGHT ON BOARD
HARRISON'S HEART / ENTER THE VENGEANCE
HEAD GAMES
I'M GONNA MAKE THIS SIMPLE
KIRK'S LAST STAND
MAN VS BLASTER
MAN VS BLASTER PART 2
MAX THRUSTERS
MOM CALLING
ON THE BRIDGE AND ON THE ROCKS
PERSONAL SPACE
PULL THE TRIGGER
SCOTTY'S FLOORED
SO LONG SCOTTY
SPOCK AND UHURA
SPOCK TO SPOCK
SUB PRIME DIRECTIVE
THE MORAL MISSION
THE PRIDE OF IOWA
TORPEDO DIPLOMACY
TORPEDO TANGO
UNDERSEA ENTERPRISES INC
VENGEANCE BLOWS - HUMAN POSICLES
YOU WANNA DO WHAT?
YOU'RE NOT SAFE AT WARP

To correlate some of these to the album:

Brigadoom is "Harrison's Heart/Enter The Vengeance".

Trying to figure out some of the others. Some are farily obvious, such as "Underwater Enterprises Inc" scoring the scene in which Bones and Kirk swim to the Enterprise at the start of the film, followed by "On The Bridge And On The Rocks".

It's interesting that unlike the first album, this one does not use a lot of the original cue names.

Bear in mind that the search only returned 38 titles.

Soundtrack albums often provide a skewed impression of a score, simply due to the fact that material is edited down or omitted completely.

This score deserves a more complete release.

Here's hoping for a Delixe Edition soon.

I don't get it. Carol Chanting is just the second half of Warp Core Values.

Yeah just that the complete score is out there. Had another listen comparing the two and this track should be legit.

I like both versions for different reasons. I wish that cue would leak out clean!

It's really annoying the IMAX prologue wasn't on the blu ray

Fixed?

Yeah works now, cheers!

This is just with the vocals removed with Audiacity right? Since annoyingly the audio in that original video is just stereo...

That is my list. Interesting that it's doing the rounds - it's based on leaked reel/part numbers and the application of logic (Spock would approve).

Can confirm it's real.

From what I heard, End Credits Part 2 isn't in the film. And Ode to Vengeance is the second of the two concert suites that Gia recorded (the first being Ode to Harrison), had a chance to hear it, it's absolutely awesome. I will be SO HAPPY if they play it at the concerts in May (at least the London one)
The bits of music from the official sites that's unreleased should also be on these. I think I can use some logic and remembering what ISN'T in the film to pair the unreleased tracks to their names:
http://www.defeatkhan.com/sounds/backgroundmusic.m4a 00:00-00:34 - Scotty's Floored, 00:34-onwards - Ode to Vengeance
Also shouldn't be a surprise that the original London Calling/Pranking the Natives isn't on there, they "rushed" (to quote Gia from the Enhanced Commentary) the recording of those in November I think at the Bad Robot studios as opposed to the Fox Scoring Stage in time for the December IMAX Prologue release. Then they re-recorded both cues and did the rest at Fox.
Also I hear that the last cue just before the sizzle reel at the end of the IMAX prologue is on these sessions - may be on Undersea Enterprises.

its clearly the sessions and not the final movie edit though

it used the album version of 'Meldmerized' for instance

but it does have the full Kronos ensemble, rather than what the OST had
