Speaking of behind-the-scenes footage, did anybody else wonder what happened to the production diaries between DoS and BoFA?

Oh, definitely. Very bummed they didn't keep making those :(

Lol

You all hate this films yet keep begging for more behind the scenes stuff.

Because the behind-the-scenes stuff is more interesting than the films themselves!

Essentially yes. So far, the appendices have been more interesting to watch than the films themselves.

Because the technical achievements on The Hobbit are nothing short of astounding. It's fascinating to see how these films came together.

Also, professional interest.

That's insane?

Why waste your time on making of material for movies you don't like?

Because these films have interesting elements buried in the trash, and the appendices tend to focus on how the good stuff came together rather than the bad. It's nice. And it's kind of neat to see how things came to be and why certain decisions were made. Take the barrel scene for instance, how they filmed it is kind of interesting, even if the scene looked like shit.

And it's also quite entertaining to see how things got as ridiculous as they did. Like seeing PJ telling everyone to do random things on a green screen with no defined scene in mind.

You think Gyver is going to move on? These are the only threads he posts on in JWFan! He'll still be here, "valiantly" defending these films, figuring out new strategies until he's converted each and everyone us into a Hobbit fanboy...which is probably never going to happen.

Humans have a natural preference for the negative over the positive. It is in our nature.

So SUH is not human? ;)

He's of a special breed. It's that colourful collage that makes JWFan so interesting! :P

Sure. But during the last year I barely contributed to these Hobbit threads due to the excessive amount of bile and hatred by the likes of you, KK, Jason, Inky etc etc.

Fanboy entitlement is incredibly off putting

I like to think I don't really post here that much these days, or at least not as much as I used to. Neither does Inky really.

I posted here well enough until this last film came out. And then after two weeks or so of ranting, I grew out of it. There's not much to talk about really aside from the occasional post about the music. Most of the posts these days are dissecting minute details, or focusing on tiny micro-edits, or over-analysis of the most obscure figures...I only respond to the more extravagant statements that pop up now and then, like when gyver makes claims like "one MUST watch the Hobbit films before LOTR", or "these are some of the finest films being made in the industry!" yada yada.

Even there I'm kind of done with it. The whole "talking to sentient brick walls" syndrome can do a number on you.

He's Half-elven!

Or given his avatar, half-orc!

Like yours when the SW prequels were released?

I like how many people who completely trashed the SW prequels when they were released are suddenly all like: "You fucking haters. You think you know better than PJ, don't you? You guys make me sick! I don't do that shit! I'm better than you!" with the Hobbit films. Fucking hypocrites!

Ive never really posted anything overly negative about the prequels. I won't waste my time with them.

I like it when you discover cool little snippets Fal (like that new bit of the Seduction theme you found a while back). It's just when every little interval is being assigned its own thematic identity that things get a little carried away. And you're hardly the only one doing it.

Like I said, I like background extras, meaning, If Themes are like main characters, and motifs are like supporting and minor characters, then those bits are like background extras in a movie with no names or history given to them within the film, like this guy: Willrow-hood.jpg;)

someone once gave the best defense of the Hobbit over the SW prequels

at least you can make good condensed edits of the Hobbit movies

Yeah...

You could edit a pretty damn enjoyable film(s) out of the three Hobbit films, by removing some of the fat. It'd be harder to do that with the prequels.

My own tentative edit of AUJ runs for about 2h 30 min and DoS 2h 13 min. AUJ has Radagast and Azog almost entirely cut out from the film (Azog is there in few glimpses where it can't be avoided) plus goofy dwarf humour bits and little stuff from here and there. DoS edit entirely removes Legolas and Tauriel and Azog and Bolg scenes all along the film and trims the Erebor finale of the film considerably and removes the High Fells entirely from the plot. Major removal is the whole Forest River chase and my edit conforms more closely to the version in the book where they just escape in the barrels.

But how can you remove Azog from TBOTFA?

That is the question indeed.
