Woop-dee-fucking-doo.

Don't try to act nonchalant Blume. Inside you are crying bitter tears. I know it. And you know it. We both know it.

Pansi left?

He changed his user name (he goes about under the name antero these days). I think it was either a drunken fancy or adult age teenage temper tantrum. Go figure.

I would assume he did not change his name. Jason changed it for him on his request. Which kinda rules out drunken fancy.

Oddly I'm watching The Departed on AMC right now. A shame about his memory eventhough he is 76. I agree with Quint that' Mr.Nicholson more than earned his retirement.

Yeah, I wrote an article about this for my magazine: http://montages.no/nyheter/jack-nicholson-pensjonerer-seg-som-skuespiller/

He's my alltime favourite actor and I've seen everything he's done except the super-obscure film THUNDER ISLAND (1963). So I was obviously saddened by the news, even though I knew it was coming.

Then all the reports to the contrary have come in. I don't know what to believe anymore. But I know I should have kept my calm a little longer before writing the above article.

Financially? Probably. But he was first set way back with Cuckoo's Nest. Was Anger Management something he really wanted to do ;)

No, going into a tub with Kathy Bates was something he really wanted to do.

About Schmidt was a merely curious entry in his oeuvre, right up until the little coda - where I formed a man tear. Good film.

It's a really good one, actually. I liked how Jack gives such an understated performance.

By his standards, anyway.

Jack has always mixed 'light' comedy/drama performances with more heavy, demanding stuff, also in recent years:

AS GOOD AS IT GETS ('light' with touches of heavy), THE PLEDGE (heavy), ABOUT SCHMIDT (heavy), ANGER MANAGEMENT (light), SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE (light), THE DEPARTED (heavy), THE BUCKET LIST (light), HOW DO YOU KNOW (light).

If the buffoon turn in THE DEPARTED counts as 'heavy' i guess Pepe le Pew can be considered a demanding character, too.

He demands a lot to that poor kitty!!!

I prefer Payne's Sideways, it's a better movie (better suited for multiple viewing) and it's less tearjerky.

I own them both on dvd because I enjoy them about equally. I have no problems with the teary content in Schmidt, I find satisfaction in it.

I also liked The Pledge. He was good in that.

Brilliant film. The ending is a standout for originality (and went on to be a running joke in my group of friends).

Bufoon? I didn't get that at all. I got a multilayered, dark and twisted gangster boss with certain likeable qualities. The role wasn't that big, but he certainly made the most of it and added lots to the character. In fact, Frank/Jack is the best part of that film, IMO.

Jack did his great ham act (think WITCHES OF EASTWICK) and was a wonderful circus performer, so to speak, but it really wasn't a part especially grounded in the real world...and not serious at all (imho). I might challenge that with his role in WOLF, another 'commercial' movie that got a more lukewarm reception but his performance is quite accomplished and much more subtle there.

Oh, how I long for the time when people referred to movies like One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining, Easy Rider, Drive He Said ...

Wha'???!!! Elegant???!!!!

The treatment of people with a mental disorder, and an allegory for the death of the American dream? Nothing elegant in that, dude.
