Jean-Baptiste Martin 260
CINEMASCORE COMBINED HORNER ARTICLES http://jameshorner-filmmusic.com/cinemascore-combined-horner-articles/ We’d like to thank Randall D. Larson and Steven Simak in their seminal efforts to bring the insights and experiences of film composers to the small but dedicated public that appreciates film music. These early looks into the career of one of Hollywood’s best known and prolific composers are a treasure, and we are grateful they have allowed us to republish their works of yesteryear. COCOON (OR EMOTION) BY JAMES HORNER http://jameshorner-filmmusic.com/cocoon-or-emotion-by-james-horner/ In 2013 we have definitely been spoiled by Intrada, with three James Horner albums: after the vibrant and unpublished In Country, the valiant and percussive Clear and Present Danger, here is the emotional and sensitive Cocoon. This is the perfect opportunity to revisit this outstanding music composed at the beginning of the Maestro's career, and look at the new elements of this edition. VIENNA 2013: INTERNATIONAL FILM MUSIC SYMPOSIUM http://jameshorner-filmmusic.com/hollywood-vienna-2013-international-film-music-symposium/ For an hour and twenty minutes, before an audience of 200, the composer answered questions from Robert Townson and the public. The conference featured five video clips from the following films: A Beautiful Mind (Creating "Governing Dynamics"), Braveheart (A Gift of a Thistle), Legends of the Fall (The Ludlows), Avatar (Jake's First Flight), and finally Titanic (Rose). James Horner's emotion during each sequence, the precision of his answers and the proximity of the composer made this conference a special and unique moment. We are pleased to provide you our impressions, accompanied by three video excerpts.
crocodile 8,441
I'm currently listening to the new release of Cocoon, which arrived about an hour ago. Not big type of scoring, most of the music remains quite fragile. The thematic material is very gentle and carefully developed, in terms of feel very close to La Luna by Michael Giacchino - especially the lovely harp and guitar passages. A genuine emotion warmth clearly put it in the same league as numerous John Williams' and Jerry Goldsmith's classics from that era - it's on par with those in terms of childhood wonder. No melodrama nor forced emotion, just pure wonder with some very nice period music touches. The complete score clocks just under 60 minutes so nothing outstays its welcome. And while I'm still a fan of his, just from listening to this you can easily tell why so many fans of Horner's 80's scores say he has lost his mojo later on. Cocoon might be his best work - absolutely gorgeous. I'm glad it's available on this great album again so I can finally own this.Karol
K-Demarco 8
Anyone has any idea of what is the music played at the begining of the Extended Edition of AVATAR, when we see Jack Sully crossing the street among the crowd, sound like horner but with some electronic additions, i dont think Horner as never writen any new music for the extented cut...? Let's get this thread kick-started.James Horner is a good composer, whos last great work was "The Name Of The Rose", and who has been repeating himself since 1988. Discuss. crocodile 8,441
I've been listening to Cocoon constantly over the last few weeks. It's a perfect James Horner score. The good thing also that the complete work doesn't exceed 55 minutes so it never outstays its welcome.Karol

Jean-Baptiste Martin 260
VIENNA 2013: THE CONCERT VIDEOSOfficial videos of the concert posted by Hollywood In Vienna, plus our exclusive video of James Horner's address to the audience Thursday evening.Link: http://jameshorner-filmmusic.com/vienna-2013-the-concert-videos/PATRIOT GAMES: THE REVENGE OF A SCOREWhat a lovely and fitting coincidence to have both scores composed by James Horner for the adventures of Jack Ryan released in extended versions within a month. Indeed, after Clear And Present Danger (1994) in June from Intrada, it was La-La Land Records’ turn to offer us Patriot Games (1992), which contains more than thirty minutes of previously unreleased music. This is an underestimated score and, despite its cold aspect (the horns and Tony Hinnigan’s pipes and flutes are not present) and some less accessible electro-percussive parts, Patriot Games deserves a second chance. The strength of this new limited edition of 3,000 copies is its development of every aspect of the soundtrack, thus promoting a better understanding of its narrative structure. Expanded, the musical ideas are more consistent. Their meanings then become clearer and more explicit, while revealing James Horner's intentions.Read more: http://jameshorner-filmmusic.com/patriot-games-the-revenge-of-a-score/

Jean-Baptiste Martin 260
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES HORNER FILM MUSIC! Dear readers,You've probably noticed our site features all new colors. It was necessary to start, as it ought to be, this fourth year with you.Indeed, three years ago, I had the crazy idea of creating a website about some of the most touching musical works ever written, the music composed by James Horner. It all started with a simple observation: there was a noticeable gap in general press and on the Internet about his music. Nowhere could one find complete information on his work nor any publications aiming at highlighting it.Read more: http://jameshorner-filmmusic.com/happy-birthday-james-horner-film-music/ This post is also available in: French, SpanishINTERVIEW WITH JIM HENRIKSON There are names you will often run into on James Horner’s album covers: Ian Underwood, Tony Hinnigan, Simon Rhodes …For 25 years one of them has been present almost every time, proof of a collaborator who has become indispensable. James Horner talks speaks of him thus in the liner notes to the soundtrack album for Troy: "my wonderful friend without whose guidance and wise counsel I would be lost."This close and faithful staff member is the legendary music editor, Jim Henrikson.Read more: http://jameshorner-filmmusic.com/interview-with-jim-henrikson/ This post is also available in: French, Spanish

Jean-Baptiste Martin 260
TITANIC CONCERT IN LONDON IN APRIL 2015 Remember. It should have been the Wednesday, May 19, 1999 in London. James Horner and Sony Music organized the Titanic concert. In the program, we would find two suites written for the album, Back To Titanic: "Titanic Suite", "Epilogue – The Deep and Timeless Sea", as well as a Celtic medley including Patriot Games / Braveheart / The Devil's Own and the world premiere of a ballet, Celtic with the Riverdance troupe. Unfortunately consumed by the composition of the score for Mighty Joe Young, the composer hadn't had time to finish his ballet and the concert had to be canceled.Read more: http://jameshorner-filmmusic.com/titanic-concert-in-london-in-april-2015/ WORLD CONCERT PREMIER OF JAMES HORNER’S “FLIGHT”The Pacific Symphony in Orange County, CA, is performing a program reflecting concert works by composers mostly known for film, in which they will perform the World Concert Premier of James Horner’s “Flight” (retitled by the composer)Read more: http://jameshorner-filmmusic.com/world-concert-premier-james-horners-flight/AUSTRALIA, 1991: JAMES HORNER SEMINARSHaving published interviews given in the early 80's to the CinemaScore magazine (see our article), we continue our exploration of the archives of the past with the publication of the two seminars which James Horner participated in, December 1991 in Australia.Read more: http://jameshorner-filmmusic.com/australia-1991-james-horner-seminars/On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the recording of Legends Of The Fall, JHFM would like to publish your answers to the following question:What does this music mean and represent to you?Send us a message before April 16. nightscape94 965
Funny that we had a Horner Self-Plagiarism thread for 5 years before someone started a thread about the actual composer.Anyway, I was bummed about Horner not getting the nod for Amazing Spider-man 2. Sharkissimo 1,974
I thought it pales next to Zimmer's, especially when it comes to memorability and pathos. Its treatment in 'You're That Spider-Guy' for me is the most moving superhero/comic book movie score moment since the birth of Kal-El and the cut to that screaming Kryptonian dinosaur thing.
