I don’t recall there being a cut there, although there are at least two edits elsewhere in this track.

Could you point them out?

I am thinking possibly the section at 5:13 might either be an edit or an insert for the EE.

Here's the notes I have for that track (The Mirror of Galadriel):

  1. Microedit at 1:04
  2. microedited section around 3:30
  3. shortened buildup around 4:30
  4. looping around 5:10
  5. looping/stretching around 6:00ish

SEE BELOW FOR A BETTER LIST

There were no EE recordings done for this section of the film.  I don't remember now if the looping later in the track is due to footage added into the EE film, or if its just like that in the TC too.

Right! So the looping in the track is probably to accommodate that brief new footage without requiring Shore to write and record an insert.

If that's the case they must have dropped some of the instruments off something when the looped it (the first instance of it has some more instruments)

So interestingly, in the TE, it seems it's actually a section late on in the track, that was cut... though perhaps they also looped the part earlier in the piece to allow for the cut to work, though the supposed. loop remains in the EE...

BTW, what makes you think those are microedits? Do they just sound edited to you?

FWIW, the appearances of that section around 3:30 in the appendices is the same as the CR, except for around 3:11 or 3:12

I don't remember - perhaps one of the video games had the missing music?

My timestamps could be off too

OK I re-examined the track.

The track obviously contains 4 different cues

  1. 0:00-1:05 = The Glory of Gondor aka Boromir
  2. 1:05-2:33 = The Mirror of Galadriel
  3. 2:33-3:41 = The Prophecy aka Not Yet Come To Pass
  4. 3:41-end = The Test aka Evil Galadriel

(cue names taken from this list, with AICN/GEMA name listed as aka if different)

Here's the edits/problems in the track:

The Glory of Gondor (0:00-1:05)

  1. The opening is not clean because its crossfaded with the ending of "Gandalf's Lament" heard in the previous track.  To be fair, it's exactly the same in the movie.  [Really, this short cue should have been at the end of the previous track on the CR, and this track should have started with "The Mirror of Galadriel" cue.]
  2. The ending is a TINY bit crossfaded into the next cue, not bad though; film could possibly have a slightly cleaner ending

The Mirror of Galadriel (1:05-2:33)

  1. The opening (the first half of the Lothlorien theme) is missing (to be fair, it wasn't used in the movie either)
  2. Not a problem just a note, that this cue was written to segue right into "The Prophecy", and so it does, just like in the film

The Prophecy (2:33-3:41)

  1. Edit/unnatural crossfade at 3:11 (sounds clunky; unedited version heard in appendixes)
  2. The full clean ending is not heard at all, because "The Test" is crossfaded in early.  You can hear the full clean ending in the film, because "The Test" doesn't begin until after some unscored moments

The Test (3:41-end)

  1. Edit at 4:33
  2. 5:12-5:18 is loop of 5:06-5:12 with percussion removed
  3. 6:01-6:07 is a repeat of 5:45-5:53ish (altered in some way)
  4. 6:10-6:12 is artificially stretched
