Who else here is a fan of the ECM guys?...Pat Metheny...

I'm slightly familiar with Metheny.  I adore Orchestrion (the musical piece, not so much the entire album)

Not strictly jazz, but The Cat Empire infuse so many different genres together, I can't help but marvel at their individuality. One of my favorite bands, and this is my favorite song off their new album.

The International Montreal Jazz Festival has begun, it gave the idea for this new playlist.

Some of my favorites:

The arrangement by Bob Curnow is really good too.

I would like this song even more it there wasn't a crazy long drum solo.

Played this for marching band as a freshman. Good memories.

Hated this song at first, but it grew on me.

Listening to Dizzy Gillespie At Newport this morning, one of my favorite jazz albums of all time.

I listened to it this week.... Great discovery, but I need to make my ear on these. I'm a fan of vocal jazz and cool jazz, bossa nova at first. When it goes too intense, it annoys me a little bit!

Dizzy actually did experiment with bossa nova in the 60s. I love the song "One Note Samba" especially.  Cool as an ice cold rum punch ;)

I'm currently discovering Johnny Mercer as a singer (well of his own songs!) and I love it.

That man's got swing! And I love his deep voice!

A true revelation for me.

Great.

Now try BITCHES BREW, ON THE CORNER, TUTU, and AURA, then go back and listen to KIND OF BLUE; the cymbal crash at about 1:30, on SO WHAT?...oh, yeah!
