Unlucky Bastard 7,782
At least CRT had better black levels than these shitty LEDs!

A24 4,327
Nobody forces you to buy a LED TV. There are other options, other technologies. If you happen to believe black levels are everything, then nothing can top OLED. A good quality 32" Trinitron TV was very expensive back in the days. Today you can get a 55" OLED for the same money (even half the price if you're not afraid of last year's model).
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Would you rather buy a 2017 model which got stellar reviews or a 2018 one for the same price which is a little less good?
A24 4,327
The newer models are usually a bit better but if the previous model is half the price then it's a no-brainer for me.

Nick1Ø66 4,689
This would be most welcome indeed. Christopher Nolan may just save film. Quote Christopher Nolan and Paul Thomas Anderson are talking to TV makers about killing motion smoothing. Directors campaign for “reference mode” on TVs that would preserve filmmaker’s creative intent.
Unlucky Bastard 7,782
So if this "reference mode" becomes a thing, should I wait before getting an OLED for my home theatre? Or would this simply be a firmware update for existing teles?
A24 4,327
I wonder if that is what I keep seeing on TVs and what I call a 'cheap video look'. My Plasma doesn't have that, it looks like film.
