Ah the infamous Donna Lackluster! Who is she really? A clone, a spambot, a reincarnation of one of JWFan's lost members? It remains a mystery...

...

I pity the fact that Mark O left now more then ever!

I sadly know not of what you refer to!

the great Mark O was very much of fan of Japanese Monster movies.

I believe he owns the greatest of all Japanese Monster films, the all star Destroy All Monsters.

Maybe the truth is just as simple as it seems.

Cool! Just to echo Stefan's question, how accessible are these monster films to someone who has never watched Japanese cinema?

Kaiju flicks from Toho made in the early 60s are about as accessible as they could be. They were supposedly popular in the West when they played in drive-ins and matinée cinemas. Dubbed but good.

The 80s and 90s ones are good too.

Do they contain anti capitalist or anti western propaganda?

Godzilla vs King Ghidorah stirred some controversy in 1991 because it portrayed American troops in WWII as buffoonish villains. Toho wouldn't have gotten away with something so overt in the 1950s.

Other cultures are constantly portrayed as buffoonish villains in films all the time to this day. Hypocrisy.
