I saw the movie a few years back.  Very broad and romantic, eclectic.  Maybe a bit stiff.

Score is by far the best part.

The leads are super easy on the eyes, though.

I saw the movie years ago. Terrible, but expectedly so.

I've never been able to get into this Horner score, for some reason, even though I'm aware it's well-liked. I mean, I love the adventure-type tracks and the broad romanticism ("Ride of the Firemares" and all that), but there was soooooo much suspense/horror music -- far more than I had expected (endless tenuto strings, stingers and abstract tension). And that type of music is not my cup of tea. To be fair, I got the 2CD Supertracks thingie right out the bat (on CD-R) back in the late 90s(?), so I haven't been able to try out the original single-disc release yet. Maybe that's better and balances the elements in a more listener-friendly way.

You can make a playlist in iTunes from your rip of the Supertracks set to end up with the 1983 OST LP program

  2. 1-2.     Slayers Attack (9:22)
  3. 2-2.     Widow's Web (6:20)
  4. 2-3.     The Widow's Lullaby (5:10)
  5. 2-9.     Destruction of the Black Fortress (8:40)
  6. 2-10.     Epilogue and End Credits 04:48)

Total Duration: 00:39:44

Or the 1987 OST CD program

  1. 2-6     Riding The Fire Mares (5:24)
  2. 1-2.     Slayer's Attack (9:22)
  3. 2-2.     Widow's Web (6:20)
  4. 1-11.     Colwyn And Lyssa (Love Theme) (2:36)
  5. 2-7.     Battle On The Parapets (2:32)
  6. 2-3.     The Widow's Lullaby (5:10)

I 've quickly compared the sound of the 2015 Krull vs the 1998 one... and there's not a so huuuuge difference.

I paid much for the 1998 version because the 2015 was OOP for a time (but was reprinted and is now available)... And well, I'm a bit disapointed that the enhancement with the newer version is so little!

Anyway, I now have the two versions!

Hey Bespin, I have another copy of 2015 Krull since you like buying the same albums but for more money each time.  I'll sell it to you for $500.

I know that, that was exactly my point.

He specifically said the 2015 release, and then said "It was OOP when I wanted to buy it", which can't be true, because it never went out of print.  The 2010 edition did.  But he specifically said the 2015 edition, not the 2010 edition.

Rather than continue to post in the Alienthread...

Apparently there was an LP program that matched the CD program and there was another LP that omitted two of the tracks.

My first answer to @Mr. Hooper asking about the expansion was "Of COURSE you need it!" (And I think I still stand by that.) I actually don't have either of the LLL's, I have the Super Tracks from way back. (And the Southern Cross, of course.)

Then I thought: Hmmm. What was it like listening to the shorter one? (I just realized it doesn't have Quest for the Glaive. Ouch.) I have always been far more familiar with the music than the film. Especially when I was spinning the Southern Cross CD. (Never had the LP.) So when I got the the Super Tracks it wasn't "Oh! I finally have my favorite part!" as much as it was "Oh! More early 80's Horner music! Yay!"

I've gone back and made a Side A and Side B playlist and I'll see what those sound like. (Gotta say, I'm finding that a super tight 20ish minute album side is nearly an ideal way to listen to music. Although a good and varied 90 min C&C can be nice to bathe in as well, of course.)

The original LP does have both of the Widow tracks. So that's not bad.

Heh. Not only does the opening of Battle of the Parapets sound like Battle in the Mutara Nebula, it's in the same place on the LP. Ahhh, Jamie.

I haven't gotten around to setting up a playlist with the album tracklist. I need to do this as I still haven't managed to listen to my Supertracks release all the way through yet.

The warehouse find is now sold out on LLL's site, but copies are still available in their eBay store.

I still wonder how these warehouse finds happen. Do they not do regular stock takes?

Posted

I think every label orders more copies than the allotted amount so that if someone receives a defective copy, they have replacement copies on hand.

If a title has little to no defective copies reported, then they eventually have some extra stock they can sell.

At least I think that's how it works.

Another possibility could literally just be true mis-counts, where they count how many they have left of something then input that number into their website so they only sell that much, but then later realize they counted wrong when they find more, perhaps in a different part of the warehouse than the main portion they counted was.

It seems to happen a lot, though, and they're sometimes found years after the title's sold out or gone out of print... I'm just wondering how big and/or disorganized must this warehouse be to keep discovering unsold copies like they've been doing.

Anyway, I hope they find some extra copies of 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' soon!

Has someone done the "Top. Men." joke yet?
