filmmusic 1,828
Same transfer?Apparently yes.Warner bros has released this in both US ans UK (the steelbook is the UK edition). So, it should be identical. The Uk release just misses the DVD with the extra documentary "Warner at War"Too much red/orange in the steelbook if you ask me, but nevertheless it looks very good.Still can't decide between this and digibook. Thor 7,504
Not a fan of MUNICH? I think it may very well be the best film Spielberg has done since 1993, and it's a shame it has no BD release. Thor 7,504
Forgettable? Yikes, couldn't disagree more. Of course, there's my beloved 'religious sound' in the Hatikvah/The Hope track (which partially utilizes an Israeli hymn), but I love the harmonic complexity of this one too. Especially the string writing. The film is fantastic, and I have no idea what keeps it from getting a BD release. Anyone?(interestingly, it appears to the film that is most loved by those that are not too keen on Spielberg in general).

Jay 37,359
A movie is only a remake if it's purposely redoing a prior movie, and giving credit to the original screenplay. If two different films are both based on the same book, or both based on the same thing that really happened in the real world, the later one isn't a remake of the first one. It's just two films about the same thing.

Thor 7,504
Indeed. There is no "kinda" remake. That's like being "kinda" pregnant. A remake refers specifically back to a previous FILM they're re-interpreting.Seems like this, however, is a case of two films being based on the same source material. filmmusic 1,828
A movie is only a remake if it's purposely redoing a prior movie, and giving credit to the original screenplay. If two different films are both based on the same book, or both based on the same thing that really happened in the real world, the later one isn't a remake of the first one. It's just two films about the same thing.well, as it turns out Munich is indeed a kind of remake: Robert Lantos, the Canadian film producer, yesterday said Munich, the new film by Hollywood mogul Steven Spielberg, is a "remake" of Mr. Lantos's film of 20 years ago, Sword of Gideon.(...)Sword of Gideon, starring Rod Steiger and Michael York, came out in 1986 and is available on DVD. Mr. Spielberg bought the rights to the screenplay, plus remake rights for Sword of Gideon, from Alliance Atlantis Communications, Mr. Lantos's former company. Mr. Jonas received a "five-figure" payment for the rights, but Mr. Lantos, who had already cashed out, received nothing. In an interview in the Wall Street Journal last week, Martin Levy, a spokesman for Mr. Spielberg, insisted that neither Mr. Spielberg nor Tony Kushner, the screenwriter of Munich, had seen the earlier Lantos film.Asked about that comment, Mr. Lantos, who now heads a new company, Serendipity Point Films, said, "If that's the case, then they have a highly developed sixth sense."Both films include a scene that is not in Mr. Jonas's book: a shot of an Israeli agent named Avner picking up the tobacco pipe of a fallen team member in a London hotel room.(...)"I think it's a very well-made film," Mr. Lantos said of Munich. "It's more of a compliment than anything else. I sold the company some time ago and the library stayed with the company. They in turn sold the remake rights to Spielberg and got paid for it, so he can do whatever he wants, including re-enact scenes exactly the way they were shot."(...)In the event, Mr. Jonas [the author of the book] prefers the earlier film. "Lantos's movie does not have a post-Zionist zing and since I'm not a post-Zionist, I prefer [it]," he said.http://www.canada.com/story.html?id=33b6796b-a288-454a-8ba7-a8e01e6833b0I just found about it from bluray.com, when someone said that the 2 films are very similar to each other, and it's not because they're based on the same book. Also this article here is quite informative:http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB113710989934945413
