it's a rite of passage here.

Not really anymore. It's easy to avoid driving if you live in the right place. I absolutely loathe it. Too much chance for the inherent stupidity of people to kill you.
The number of traffic deaths is at a 62 year low. A car is a necessity in the south to a young man.

People taking a week to reply to a simple SMS. Honestly, if you don't care, don't reply.

Cyclists who think they enjoy some sort of immunity to the traffic rules and are allowed to do anything just because they ride a bicycle, and start swearing if you don't do as they please.

Here in the U.S. cyclists can get a ticket since they're supposed to obey the traffic laws just like a person driving a car. Not sure how it is over there in Germany.

-Tail-gaters

I mean seriously, do you not see you're right up on our bumper? Do we need to MOVE out of the way for you? Do we need to open up our trunk and say, "hey come on through!"? That shit annoys the hell out of me.

-People who don't go the speed limit

There's a point of being cautious but driving 10 mph or more under the speed limit? Come on now... it's worse if you have an old person in front of you doing it and won't move for nothing.

-To busy messing with their phones while driving

This is a huge area of annoyance. If I were driving I'd at least use a bluetooth but some people can't seam to talk and drive at the same time, especially if it's a woman. No offense to the women here on the board...but man they are big offenders. It is annoying when you are at a light, the light turns green and the person in front doesn't go because they're either A: to busy talking on the phone or B: too busy texting. A lot of times B is the most culprit of the two.

There have been times dad and I would pass someone who was going slow and sure enough they were texting while driving. I know here in Utah it's illegal to text and drive, if you're caught you can get fined pretty good.

The list goes on...but man

Also if I drove I would use a bluetooth and I would make it a general rule to mass text before I went any where saying I am driving and will text later.

That reminds me - cyclists that ride on the road ;)

That's where they belong. Car drivers that won't accept that are one of my bigger annoyances.

They belong on the sidewalk or a bike lane but we don't waste our tax dollars around here. They are a nuisance and a hazard.

Cars own the road

That's what many car drivers like to believe, but there's no foundation for it. The road is for all kinds of regular traffic vehicles, and keeping them hidden in extra lanes half of the time (because you'll never manage to build multiple complete road networks to separate all kinds of vehicles) just makes it easier for car drivers to ignore bikers and then nearly kill them when they encounter them. I could tell you some stories about cars nearly running me over in the most stupid situations.

It's that rock hard belief that they own the road that make all car drivers into fascist as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed. The worst is when there are a bunch of them and instead even doing single file they all gang up side by side and take up the whole lane. On some roads I can permit it. There's one in particular that I drive on every day home from work that a shit ton of bicyclists use. However one time there was a biker riding into traffic on the road in the middle of the night. I had to swerve to avoid killing the bastard.

Here, too, but you're still bound by traffic rules, obviously. And most bikers who never learned the rules don't dare go on the actual road anyway.

There's a lot of bikers ignoring traffic rules, running red lights etc. The percentage of significantly reckless bikers is probably similar to car drivers. Perhaps higher in some instances. The difference is that a rule ignoring biker rarely hurts anyone else, while rule ignoring car drivers regularly kill people.

I obey the rules, apart from that one where your not allowed to wear a walkman or iPod while cycling, but that doesnt apply to me I think.

I obey the rules except for the occasional *careful* rolling along on the sidewalk *if there's no other acceptable route to take*. We're allowed music devices, just not closed headphones. I usually wear my headset (which is the only legal way now to make phone calls on a bike anyway, as it should be).

Speaking of which, whenever I see a car running a red light, ignoring a pedestrian at a crossing or skipping the indicator, I take a look at the driver. In roughly 90% of these cases, the driver is holding a mobile phone in his hand (which is illegal). Except for the indicator that is - perhaps 50% simply don't use that. Especially if there's no other cars around, just e.g. a bike right behind them or a pedestrian walking along the route they're about to cross. Apparently, many people find it more convenient to think about whether to use the indicator in every single case instead of just flipping it on and off without extra thought. Plus they're not aware of anything on the street except other cars. I'm not a good car driver, but whether I'm in a car or on a bike, indicating a turn comes automatically to me. Anything else is simply egoistic.

After seeing a really horrible video years ago of a poor cyclist being diced by a wagon I've felt very uneasy riding a bike on the road ever since. But it's not something I do often anyway.

Exactly. Turn signals and the parking brake are automatic responses to me. Doesn't matter what time of day or how many people are on the road.

That's because cars rule the road.

Bikes are not allowed on major highways and interstates here in the states. There are areas that have designates bicycle lanes but they are uncommon. On other roads bike riders beware. Slow moving traffic is a danger, both to themselves and the majority traffic.

True cyclists will generally ride in single file line. I see that a lot here in Utah when a whole group will cycle together. True cyclists will also obey the traffic laws like a regular vehicle.

I know there's bike lanes here in SLC but there are some areas where there is NO bike lane at all and you have no where to go except in the street.

Edit: I don't know how women are in other parts of the states....but damn for some reason women drivers here like to literally drive down the MIDDLE of the road. I mean if it's like in a parking lot they'll take up the whole road until you get to them. Or if it's a small area going in and out of something like an apartment complex they'll have to take up the whole damn drive way.

I swear the way how I see so many people drive here that most of them need driving school...

Another pet peeve of mine is when people slam the cubicle door in the men's room when they're about to do a poo. I understand they must be busting, but rooms like that act as an echo chamber and it's really not necessary to be that loud!

I also find it embarrassing when I'm standing next to someone at the troth and they let out some big farts while they're piddling.

Waiters in the USA and the concept of (compulsory) tipping.

did you get bad service? I tipped 8 dollars on a 35 dollars meal. The girl was excellent.

Yeah!

I watch a lot of YouTube stuff on my Note phone, it's really great quality and very convenient, but this recent increase in compulsory ads between vids made me bin the official YT app and seek out an alternative. And buried amongst all the janky trash out there on the Play Store I eventually found a brilliant little gem of an unofficial YT app - which doesn't have the commercials at all. Yay!

Now I just need to find an elegant replacement for the iPad version, where the constant ads still irritate.

Waiters in the US get paid minimum wage or worse. They need the tips to have any chance at a liveable income.

I do hate that using plastic for takeout orders still puts the tip line on the receipt, which I have to think whether I should tip. It's really not required.

I do hate when waiters or waitresses overuse the word "guys" when addressing my party, even if it's mostly women in the group. There are better, gender neutral words that aren't so lazy.

Boo hoo. They get paid the equivalent here as well as other countries. Sure, tip for great service, it's a nice way of showing your gratitude. But you have just been brainwashed into thinking it's reasonable and okay to - as the customer - subsidise those whom the employer and the state are happy to palm off with peanuts.
