Dixon Hill 4,229
Anyone have any idea what was used for the echoing notes at 19 seconds into Pranking the Natives, and also generally throughout the horn-led intro? I hear the obvious pad-synth, and the bell/chime one that plays right at the beginning and I think also plays the bit in question. Sounds Yamaha-ish maybe? Sharkissimo 1,971
It's a 2013 score, so it's most likely going to be a software synth prelayed, which the orchestra would've played on top of.
crocodile 6,294
Oh speaking of Into Darkness, is that thing in The Kronos Wartet track an actual blaster beam or just synth?Karol

Giacchino uses live synths in the room at least sometimes, if you check out some photos from his sessions.

Sharkissimo 1,971
http://scoringsessions.com/sessions/29883/dsc_1530.jpgOk, the top light grey one is a Korg Triton. The dark grey synth I'm not sure - it's another 00s workstation. Give me a sec...Edit: Cheated and looked at Mark LeVang's gear list. Bottom one's a Yamaha Motif XS8. Dixon Hill 4,229
Nice. Seems likely they would have been used on STID as well, so I'll check them out.
Sharkissimo 1,971
As a fellow MoS fan who's interested in synths, I thought you might enjoy these two tutorials I found.
Dixon Hill 4,229
Extremely interesting! I really loved that pad that opens the score as soon as I heard it. I don't use Kontakt and so don't have that synth, but I think I need to do some messing about now rather than turning in for the night.Incidentally, got any favorite toys of your own? I'm always looking for more stuff.
Dixon Hill 4,229
There's actually a preset on Zebra that's very similar to this.
