As opposed to all those mortgage-paying tramps? :/

No, as opposed to whores and easy women/conquesting men.

I just had two 9% IPA's. Life is good.

The other day I got drunk with loads of Basque cider, one after another after another after another after another. Sagardoa!

Got drunk on Swirls last night. World's greatest margarita. Frozen sangria and margarita swirled together with lime. The sangria has Everclear in it.

Had screwdrivers with brunch today.

Ouzo is very nice in small doses.

I can't stand Ouzo. Which saved me when we went to Athens with the choir.

The Greeks have good beer though:

The other night I had orange vanilla polar seltzer water mixed with Hennessy. Don't ask why. Regardless, it wasn't bad!

I can't ever drink Apfelkorn again for that very reason.

Captain Morgan for me in that situation.

I like Johnny Walker. Whisky is meant to be savored as an after-dinner sort of thing. A swallow or two and you're good. Not something to knock shots back of.

The fun thing about whisky is that on a longer evening in company (like yesterday's card game session), you can switch between different brands.

Posted

You can, but I don't like pure vodka and rum. With beer, you usually need several per person, so you'd have to plan ahead carefully to get a range of brands for switching.

With whisky, you just build a small collection. Then each bottle lasts for months and you can you have a range to pick from ready at any time.

You can do that with wine, but you need more bottles. I'm still not really a wine drinker though.

Wine is my preferred alcoholic beverage, but yes, a whisky bottle can last you for years depending on how frequently you partake. I still have an unopened Double Black from awhile back myself.

If you're ever in the southwest of England, Marian, there's a great pub in Devon called the Nobody Inn that has getting on for 250 different types of whisky available. It's in a little village called Doddiscombsleigh on the way up to Dartmoor from Exeter so is very difficult to find, but definitely worth a visit. Here's a linkage thingy:

By the way, the spelling whiskey (with an 'e') usually denotes Irish whiskey over here, while whisky denotes that it is from Scotland.

I'll try to remember that should I ever end up in the vicinity.

Yup. There doesn't seem to be an awful lot of Irish whiskey though, right? At least when I was in Ireland last spring, most pubs focused on Scotch whisky.

I woke up at 4 this morning wanting an ice cold Dos Equis.

I have one of those sitting on my drinks shelf...just added a 16 year old Lagavulin too.

I guess you really did stay thirsty then.

You bet. With no work today, I'm just waiting for 11:30 to roll around.

For a while, Armstrong and Miller's 'teen-speak' WW2 airmen characters were on the bottles of Spitfire :) .

The Lagavulin 16 was the first in my collection. I'm a fan of the Islays.

Last night, a few bottles of Stella Artois (the 4.8% stuff). Dunno how it landed its 'wife-beater' reputation (it's hardly the only 'premium strength' lager available), but what the hell.

Strange. I haven't heard of that. Restaurants in Manhattan wouldn't mind charging you $9 for a Stella draft.

Pretty tasty beer, though.

Last night, there were some English ales ... St. Peter's Organic, Black Sheep's Golden Sheep and IPA Reserve. Lovely.
