Incanus 5,714
Agreed. Sounds closer to what JNH did in early 2000s than his more current stylings.

Incanus 5,714
There is a sort of Elfman-esque vibe to some of this stuff. But it sounds very good indeed.

Quintus 5,399
I actually quite fancy this movie without seeing anything other than Jolie in that iconic wicked costume. She was born to play Maleficent.

Richard Penna 3,684
The song is good too. Really, really looking forward to this.Demonstrates one thing - it's not the composer, but the director who is the problem. Interesting that it's a visual effects guy turned director who gets a real score from JNH.

BloodBoal 7,538
It's never too late! They could record a new score in just one week, if needed. Just take a keyboard, doodle around, and there you go!
publicist 4,643
Is one of the Djawadis free? Though i guess by the tone of the music that despite of the advertised darkness the thing is mainly aimed at kids so the score slipped through They used the 1959 theme, after all. Nothing offensive, and only works for me because it utilizes Howard's theme.

Nothing offensive, and only works for me because it utilizes Howard's theme.Lord you gave them ears but they don't listen. The song utilizes the 1959 original Disney song based on a Tchaikovsky's ballet SLEEPING BEAUTY. How can anyone even vaguely familiar with JNH and his way of writing mistake this for a JNH theme?

How can anyone even vaguely familiar with JNH and his way of writing mistake this for a JNH theme?Dumb Koray is dumb!I'm not talking about the main melody that she sings along with, but the small bits of chorus that pop up in the song. I shouldn't have called it a theme, but it's quite similar to Howard's main choral idea in the score. Or maybe I'm just misremembering things. SF1_freeze 131
I really like JNH ambitious thematic orchestral efforts like Dinosaur, Waterworld or Atlantis. If Maleficent harkens back to those this score will be among my 2014 highlights. nightscape94

publicist 4,643
A solid B. It's hampered a bit by the lack of a strong theme and some generic action music, but the more colorful impressionistic pieces make up for it. Listen to SUITE, MALEFICENT FLIES, THE CHRISTENING and THE QUEEN OF FAERIELAND for the score's best features.
