Quintus 5,391
http://youtu.be/7bRNEZVNVSsBear with me. I just had the strangest moment of realisation while watching this (after stumbling on it due to a different link which publicist posted earlier).Life so utterly imitates art in this acceptance speech: it's twenty years later and the naturalistic 'performance' of Spielberg during his visibly emotionally charged acceptance address to his peers, the direction of the award unveiling including the perfectly orchestrated cuts to the rapturous loving family members reactions, Williams' music loud and centre - it is all noticeably sweeping and schmaltzy almost as if it were orchestrated by the director himself at the peak of his most sentimentally climatic powers. It's as if we're watching the famous director's Academy Award win as exactly fantasied by him for years and years before that point. It almost feels staged - such is the recognisable style of the moment. It's like we're watching the Spielberg directed biopic about himself but it's actually really playing out that way for real, in all its cheesy John Williams scored majesty.Seriously; in an alternate universe the music as heard in this clip is the dinosaurs ballet from Jurassic Park - such is regal grandiosity in this instance of heightened celebration. It's really weird, and a bit unnerving. His last line before being led off stage by a smiling Clint Eastwood even seems rather... tasteless. In fact I actually find it satirical, but of course the euphoric music excuses it effortlessly. Is Steven Spielberg John Williams and is John Williams Steven Spielberg? In my semi stoned state I feel like I'm uncovering the secret of their magic formula, the reasoning behind their success. They're each other's reflection; in two different mediums: by sheer chance they crossed paths and expressed themselves spiritually by occupying the other party as a vessel for their wild imaginations and dreams. The odds of such a creative pairing ever happening again in the mediums of film and music are probably non existent. Steven and John are total freaks the likes of which we are lucky to be privy to and which will never be seen again, ever.

Quintus 5,391
Seriously though, has there ever been music more joyous for murdered Jews than that heard in this clip?
mrbellamy 5,231
Can we get back the old style of people simply saying "Thank you" and one or two additional sentences instead of this "holding forth"? With most categories (even the bigger ones), it's people that no one knows thanking other people who are even less known.Suh-NORE! Technically, that IS the old style. Greer Garson was allowed to go on and on for five-and-a-half minutes in the 40s...Life so utterly imitates art in this acceptance speech: it's twenty years later and the naturalistic 'performance' of Spielberg during his visibly emotionally charged acceptance address to his peers, the direction of the award unveiling including the perfectly orchestrated cuts to the rapturous loving family members reactions, Williams' music loud and centre - it is all noticeably sweeping and schmaltzy almost as if it were orchestrated by the director himself at the peak of his most sentimentally climatic powers.Don't forget the standing ovation
