Some of the quotes are hilarious. :D

Here are two of my favorites:

18. Tim Burton on Kevin Smith (after Smith jokingly accused Burton of stealing the ending of Planet of the Apes from a Smith comic book):
“Anyone who knows me knows I would never read a comic book. And I would especially never read anything created by Kevin Smith.”

19. Kevin Smith on Tim Burton (in response to “I would never read a comic book”):
“Which, to me, explains fucking Batman.”

I like the one where he said he'd rather watch a good kung-fu movie instead. That was classy attack rather than the rest which were just crass.

And I agree with Smith about Magnolia. I swapped my copy with a mate for his Fight Club.

I somewhat agree with Gallo (who?) on Scorsese.

With the possible exception of Hugo, his movies are all far too long (Goodfellas, for all its positives is a real chore to sit through, and requires an advanced degree in mob culture).

If I was a famous director, I wouldn't make negative comments about my colleagues. Can you imagine Spielberg talk that way about other directors?

It smacks of envy but on the other hand: it's entertaining.

Though i have to say that the analytical 'qualities' of most of the comments are rather shining by their absence. I don't expect more from Vincent Gallo but Bergman and Rivette should know better.

Did you at least get two or three of them?

Right? SUCH a good year for movies. The best single year for movies in the past 20 years!

Darabont went too far with The Green Mile but there's some good storytelling in it (especially during the first hour). But yes, he goes overboard towards the end. The Shawshank Redemption is a little more restrained.

Yes! 1999 was a great year for scores!

The Matrix

The Mummy

The Phantom Menace

Instinct

Mystery Men

The Sixth Sense

The 13th Warrior

American Beauty

Fight Club

Sleepy Hollow

The World Is Not Enough

Bicentennial Man

Galaxy Quest

Angela's Ashes

Some of those scores are better than others, but damn, that's a lot of music to be excited about in one year!

You forgot The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Cider House Rules, Anna and the King, and one of the year's true masterpieces: The Red Violin

Deep Rising was wonderful. Very poignant!

I got a lot of shit from my friend for even vaguely enjoying this.

I saw Existenz at the cinema but haven't a clue what happens in it because I was on a date.

Hole in the popcorn bag trick, eh?

You forgot The Cider House Rules

Completely overrated.
