Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (Rian Johnson 2017)

At least with this spot we now know that it's PG13. Not what I would call a breaking new but…

Maybe Rian Johnson found the music to be so awesome that he made sure Disney would not release a single note before the film is released.

Would AOTC require a 3 disc set?  It's pretty close in length to TLJ

Nope. AOTC has, I think, the least amount of music out of all the films. Half of the 3rd act is just music from TPM, as we all know.

I'm feeling strangely confident that Kylo will have a new/expanded theme, rather than just his two separate ideas in TFA. Williams will roll them together to bring it closer with Imperial March, but with greater 'hesitancy' and without the brash confidence of a march.

this has to be the new ESB dammit!

Congratulations, you've officialy set yourself to dissapointment right there.

I like Rian Johnson's work, but that's waaaaay too high a bar to clear, especially with the fact that Johnson had much of his board set for him by virtue of where Abrams left the story and through Rian's decision to take off his film directly after that point in time.

Johnson is obviously no Kirsher.

Just wait for the reviews...

"The worst Star Wars film since The Phantom Menace"

"The porgs make Jar Jar look cool"

"Makes Giacchino's Rogue One sound like a masterpiece"

"Rip-off of The Empire Strikes Back"

with a touch of seriousness, I will predict very favorable reviews.  I think the biggest complaint will be that the movie is not as near daring as Johnson/Hamill have led us to believe.  I think if the score is mentioned, it will be for the whatever Williams came up with for the Casino planet (and I expect that to be positively noted).

Given how bad JL was and how "light" Thor was, the critics will appreciate a major blockbuster with any semblance of substance.

I don't know.  I have a feeling that the casino blight stuff will just be standard Williams source music.  It would be cool if there was a full musical number or something though...

Feel like they would be remiss not to do some type of sequence showing off the casino. The behind-the-scenes showed a glimpse at a dolly shot that might point to something like that.

It'll be one sweeping shot of the casino then cut back to Ach-To.

On that BTS video, I was pleased that the saber fights, in TFA as well, were conducted with light-up props. The only time they did that before was in AOTC in the duel with Dooku and Anakin which looked okay. In-keeping with the whole tangible aesthetics these sequels are going for, it's good to see they're taking the lighting seriously. In the past the light from the saber and how it interacted with the actors was always off or non-existent.

I was listening to a podcast this weekend the guest was an author and podcaster who does a lot of stuff about old Hollywood, and she casually mentioned that her boyfriend wrote and directed the new Star Wars movie and I realized it was Rian Johnson's girlfriend.  Who knew

I saw a commercial last night that the Magic Kingdom Disney Magic Holiday Celebration on Nov. 30 will have a first look at TLJ (I don't remember how they worded it but something to that effect).  Not sure if they mean a clip or something else but the promo was somewhat crudely tacked on at the end of the Holiday Celebration spot.  Anyone else see that?  I'm unable to find any articles about it so maybe I'm imagining things.

I seem to remember them doing that for TFA. However, it was just a new TV spot last time IIRC, not an actual film clip.

I saw it again last night and it said "Exclusive look" so it's probably not a film clip but they've been releasing TV spots left and right lately with no drum up so who knows.  If Disney did show a clip, I'm sure it would be at a bigger and probably live televised venue.
