Quick question -

Do I need to see Spider-Man No Way Home before Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness?

[I ask because my 3D blu ray of Spider-Man won't arrive until August and that will be my first viewing]

It is briefly mentioned but doesn't spoil anything nor is it relevant to Multiverse of Madness.

Kind of odd that that’s the case, since Doctor Strange was such an integral part of the Spider-man movie.  I wonder if the lack of interplay between the two has to do with the flux in scheduling (Doctor Strange was originally supposed to come out first, but COVID threw a wrench in that plan).

Excited to watch Doctor Strange this weekend.  I’ve also been really enjoying Ms. Marvel at 2 episodes in.

Just before the pandemic hit, the announced MCU schedule was:

  • May 1, 2020 Black Widow
  • August 2020 Falcon and the Winter Soldier
  • November 6, 2020 Eternals
  • December 2020 WandaVision
  •
  • February 12, 2021 Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  • May 7, 2021 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
  • Spring 2021 Loki
  • July 16, 2021 Spider-man: No Way Home
  • Summer 2021 What If?
  • Fall 2021 Hawkeye
  • November 5, 2021 Thor: Love and Thunder
  •
  • May 6, 2022 Black Panther 2
  • 2022 Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

It's sort of amazing we're only 2 or 3 movies behind the original plan

It's also interesting that Julia Louis Dreyfus' character was supposed to be in Black Widow before Falcon & Winter and it ended up flip-flopped

What’s the Spider-Man no way home more fun stuff if not an extended cut? Genuinely asking, I’ve not seen anything else about it. I suppose it’s coming out in theaters, not D+.

I did notice they spelled Alan Silvestri’s name wrong in the credits though.

It said “‘Captain America Theme’ by Alan Silverstri”

I was right, this was corrected for the home video release.  I swear his name was spelled wrong in the theater!

I learnt a new word, today: "queerbaiting".

Really? That word's been everywhere these past few years. Especially connected to Disney productions.

Roger Corman: Marvel Could Improve by Following James Cameron’s Tactics of ‘Story Comes First’
"With Marvel, it sometimes feels like the special effects are the stars," Corman said of the MCU, "and the story frankly can be filler between the special effects."

I rarely this word seriously, and even less if something like Disney is involved. Begging my fellow queers to actually "consume" art by queer creators.

I think it is pretty important when the creator is queer if they’re writing about queer issues because it’s such a deeply personal and unique experience which often creates far greater nuance than someone that’s guessing

Its why I adore RTD’s gay dramas because you can tell he’s writing from a personal place and you end up with stories unlike any other, which offer great nuance and show sides of the gay community that I never even knew existed. Even purely from a storytelling perspective it’s wonderful stuff and something anyone could enjoy because of how fresh it feels

I may have just been too snarky. I may be wrong in some way because I'm assuming they would never advertise to us, but in reality corporations advertise to specific portions of the population all the time and then there's their rainbow charade in june which i wish they didn't feel comfortable doing. So maybe "queerbaiting" in corporate films and shows is a thing that can happen.

Now that I've finished Ms. Marvel, here's my ranking of the MCU Disney+ shows

  1. Ms. Marvel
  2. Hawkeye
  3. Falcon & Winter Soldier
  4. WandaVision
  5. Loki
  6. Moon Knight

Still haven't seen What If

A very interesting article.  The characters created by the comics writers and artists are the foundation on which the MCU is built, and those writers aren't getting compensated fairly.

I'm a big Marvel fan. So all the announcements from yesterday were amazing.

The trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was mindblowing.

The projects announced all sound great!

I'm very excited!!

Wait, two Avengers movies on the same year? Really? That is just too much. I think down the line this Secret Wars movies will eventually be moved to 2026.

More importantly: will Silvestri be back? :)

How can a movie in 2024 be the start of Phase 6, when now in 2022 we're still in the middle of Phase 4?

We're approaching its end. Black Panther Wakanda Forever is the final Phase 4 film. Thor: Love And Thunder is the penultimate film of Phase 4.

I think the issue is that, up until this point, there have not been any clear 'borders', so until now we didn't know where Phase 4 would actually end. It's also new that we won't be getting an Avengers film at the end of each Phase like before. I will say this though: that's a heck of a lot of Marvel films crammed into a year right there.
