Would you see a 75-year-old movie on IMAX 3D?

I'm actually surprised there isn't something like that yet. On demand theaters. You can request screenings of whatever you like. Films are made for the cinema. Why limit their lifespan there?

You'd think that filmmakers, at least the ones who really care about format, would want to pioneer something like that even if it means accepting less royalties or something.

This. The AFI in Silver Spring shows old films regularly and has programs where they screen several thematically related films over a course of a few months. Good stuff there.

I'm not sure about the 3D, but on IMAX, The Wizard of Oz? Why not?

I saw it last year, the transfer was actually pretty good. It's worth it just for another chance to see the movie on the big screen: http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20559&page=272#entry938342

Really?

Yes. I really hoped EYE would include it in their Hitchcock program this fall, but alas. I might go and see Rear Window though. That seems like a fun film to watch on the big screen.

Oh yeah. I'd definitely watching the classics on a regular screen. IMAX 3D is just taking the piss though.

I'd love to see the Godfather on the big screen for example.

I wish they'd put ALL classic films back in theaters!

I'm fortunate to have a few smaller theaters within a drivable distance that show nothing but old or classic films.

Not sure about seeing The Wizard of Oz in IMAX......The Wiz on the other hand!
