The DCU - DC Universe

It's obvious these scenes are disproportionately better than the rest of the movie. Maybe it's because Jeremy Irons is just a better performer. Affleck is dependable and plays off him well, maybe ups his game here. The music is good too. It gets you involved. Outside of Gotham City, everything is a mess. The whole storyline with silly millennial hipster Lex Luthor off his meds, the stupid LOTR monster, the awkward dark and disturbing Superman and Lois Lame are a real drag.

In Man of Steel? They intentionally wrote him as a reckless fool?

????

No, as an alien instead of the American hero you were hoping for.

They should've written Superman out of the film and kept it a dark, brooding story between him and Luthor (sans the cave troll). I reckon this film was originally structured differently, with three or four competing story lines that became such a tangled mess that they had to leave it as it was.

Yes! Affleck and Irons are actually well done and you can see (at least Affleck) cares about bringing something to the performance.

She uncovered the actual plot, which was a blank page with a post-it-note attached to it reading 'Write something about Batman fighting Superman xoxo Chris Terrio'

The movie sounds like it may be too cynical and misanthropic based on the review, but I don't know. And/or the reviewer is trying to millennialy defend the Joker's perhaps deserved and satisfying kills in a weird way.

"I'm not saying he should've killed her, but I understand."

Jack Napier. Assault with a deadly weapon, age 15. Results of psychological profile: violent mood swings, highly intelligent, emotionally unstable. Aptitudes include science, chemistry and art.

Apparently this promo material is giving a little kid nightmares in Brisbane (Australia) so the parents have filed a complaint.

I heard that this new The Suicide Squad is a "reboot", even though it still has Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. So is it still set in the same universe as the first one or is it set in another universe? Is it gonna be like Casino Royale where it's set in a completely different universe to the Brosnan flicks but retains Judi Dench as M? That sort of thing?

Maybe it's like the Marvel Multiverse?

It looks like they salvaged the good actors/characters from the original film. This is perhaps the strangest incident of a reboot I've seen, from it's conception to taking actors from the previous film, coming out only a few years after the original.

Excuse my ignorance, but is this actually a reboot, or a retelling within the same world? How does this fit in with Birds of Prey? Does it? My head hurts...

I was under the impression this was a reboot altogether, ignoring the previous film and sweeping it under the rug.

Smith has a big ego. I think he turns down projects where he’s not the lead star. You can tell that Suicide Squad disproportionately focused on him over the whole “squad.”

Seemed to be more about Harley Quinn, the most out of place character in the entire movie that doesn't even have any superhero talent.

If it's a pocket universe that ended up in the prime universe thats very possible. Perhaps it accidentally fell through a quantum singularity?

She’s certainly #2, but Smith’s character had a complete arc, if I remember correctly.

From the impression I got, The Suicide Squad is a soft reboot/sequel. I have zero clue as to how it fits in with Birds of Prey.
