Songs - by Doyle?

Amazon doesn't say.

Has he ever written a song?

Many of his scores have songs... Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, Sense and Sensibility and Brave spring to mind. And they're all very fine songs.

All i can say for now is that the movie is a triumph of kitsch - kitsch as kitsch can, and really done well - and the music has Doyle in fine form (and he thankfully isn't fishing in the putrid pond of rotten RCP leftovers like his other recent work), it is a great movie experience all around.

I have no idea what you're talking about

Posted

I believe he is saying the movie is good, and the score is good.

as opposed to one being better than the other (Great movie, bad score vs. bad movie, great score)

Posted

I believe Branagh chose to do an almost Shakespearean take on this. I'm interested...

Posted

He most certainly didn't. But if you want fairy tale, you get FAIRY TALE in the probably grandest fashion ever seen.

Oh. I must re-watch that panel-Q&A then. Damn, could have been interesting.

Sweet!

I dunno what you're talking about

Meh. All of the bonus tracks this time around are songs. Since all I'm likely to want is Doyle's score, I'm not too miffed.

Note to those planning on buying the physical CD:

The digital soundtrack includes 3 bonus instrumental tracks (Strong, A Dream is a Wish, Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo).

Fucking digital exclusives.

And these bonus tracks are songs from the film, not score tracks.

But did Doyle write the music of the songs?

Posted

At least one of the songs is a song from the original animated film (unless it just has the same title), so while the original composition may not be by Doyle, Doyle could have had something to do with these versions.

Posted

Oh wait, Strong is a end credit pop song. But it's written by Doyle, yeah. I believe so are the other two, since they are basically musical-like numbers.

"A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes" and "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" are both songs from the original animated film in 1950, written by Al Hoffman, Mack David, and Jerry Livingston. Interesting that they're included here, and sung by cast members. Does that mean they're in the film? That would make this the most faithful of Disney's live-action "reboots" in recent years. No dark Burtonization or revisionist Wicked-ization here, which to me is a good thing, but also calls into question the reason for making the movie in the first place. Theatrical re-releases are a heck of a lot cheaper than big-budget remakes...

The original hasn't aged that well to be re-released, in my opinion. Personally, it's one of my least liked Disney films.

No. Reviews of the film say the songs play on the end credits, but not as musical sequences in the film.

This has to be one of the most empty music reviews i'e ever read. Bring on Clemmenson's long-winded diatribe why it's wonderful but borders on intolerability.

I have the OST too (a promo version, anyway, but the contents are the same). It's actually quite good, although every single track comes off as a climax track so the overall listening experience isn't the best. Plus it has loads of waltzes and polkas midway that should be weeded out. Other than that, a fine score indeed -- one of the best Doyle has done in the last 5 years.

You don't have to go that far back. Some good ones in the last 5 years too -- BRAVE, LA LIGNE DROITE, JIG. This belongs with those three.
