artguy360 1,843
This thread has motivated me to revisit the score. I love the color in the orchestrations and the light-footed whimsy of the music. It is a very fun score and yet lacks those standout cues that are present in the best JW scores. Smeltington 1,440
I'll probably never see the movie, so I'm ok with the OST presentation until we get the FYC/sessions/expansion. But this is great info to have available, thanks Jay!
rough cut 1,714
Although I thought the OST was a downer, I am sure that, with the complete score, you could fashion a nice little selection of good music.
Joni Wiljami 1,206
You are a downer.
Popular Post Disco Stu 15,495
I listened to this album tonight and gosh it’s an enjoyable and fascinating listen. Williams’ sophistication and orchestral technique just a wonder to behold. I love how in places it comes close to sounding like his concert music. Jay 37,355
Yea I like it a lot too. I never really figured out why it didn't generate a lot of discussion, or at least not as much as I was expecting. Fozmo
crumbs 14,313
And it's sad to think, after 4 years, we still don't have a clue what the FYC included. crlbrg, Edmilson and Chewy

Every single other John Williams FYC has made the rounds, so hopefully it will eventually. It seems the Oscar campaign was pretty half-hearted so there were very few copies pressed, and it was never available streaming, unlike most other FYC albums. Let’s just have a complete sessions leak instead! crlbrg
crlbrg 381
Don't know if anyone's ever spotted this before, but it seems they listed John's brother Don Williams as a tubist rather a percussionist in the CD booklet Chewy and Will

Jay 37,355
So this week I listened to Danny Elfman's score to Article 99, and check out how similar track 3 of the OST album, "Mayday" is to the Giant Country theme! I wonder if the music editors had this on the temp track and Williams was asked to emulate? Or if its just a total coincidence? Chewy
Smeltington 1,440
Around the 1 minute mark, I hear it. I think you might be right.
Disco Stu 15,495
It's similar for sure but also so thoroughly Batman '89 style Elfman. I dunno, my bet would be that it's a complete coincidence.

That's funny, listening to the BFG score and even the parts that sound similar to this Danny Elfman track, I've never thought that BFG sounds like an Elfman score, but hearing it now, the similarities are undeniable.
