Boy they announce these things early

They obviously have a 5 year plan at Tadlow.

Oh that. Yes, I did. 3 times, actually. But I was out when I got it and didn't notice the PDF on my phone.

Looking at it now though I still nearly missed the "special limited collector's edition" bit. Odd. No worries though, just ordered it.

Cleaned up the main post by adding the track list, other order links, and other info.

Anybody besides croc and Marian buying this?

$16 seems like a bargain for a normal CD of the re-recording PLUS a blu ray with the whole thing in 96/24 surround, and video footage of the recording

$24, to be exact. Price on the Tadlow page is in pounds.

I only withhold my money from Tadlow if it's Tiomkin.

Not a fan? His scores are among a few I never bought. No particular reason.

Just take my money already Tadlow!

I thought they did alrady? My bank statement says so. ;)

Yeah, his tunes are not the problem, neither are Tiomkin's who wrote some over-great ones. But the writing is so dense, overengineered and old-fashioned, i just literally have to turn it off.

Tiomkin has never been my favourite either. Steiner is hit or miss.

Just seen this.

Why are there twice as many horns and winds as in the original? Why aren't the women up in the gallery and distant miced on the ground floor for the effect Herrmann intended? Annoying.

Obviously they went for a bigger ensemble because they could.

Looking forward to this one.

Nice year for Herrmann, so far, with OBSESSION (Music Box), OBSESSION (Tadlow), BENEATH THE 12 MILE REEF (Kritzerland) and THE EGYPTIAN (LaLaLand).

I'm hoping for more of those 20th Century Fox scores from Kritzerland, especially THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR and HANGOVER SQUARE.

Because the women would have been afraid of the mice.

OK bought along with Goldsmith's Hour of the Gun and QB VII.

Is it even a review of it? Only a few sentences out of all those words actually discuss the contents of the new CD

Those are called gush notes I believe. ;)

Charlie obviously liked it.

Yeah, it might seem rather simple and refreshed but the gist of it is that the gang at Tadlow did it again.

I've heard the album a few weeks ago myself (through private cloud listening party). And it's really good. Obviously, purists will find reasons to tear this apart (I've seen Sharky not being happy about the recording?) but it definitely captures the soul and essence of this score. People should be happy with it, as usual.

It's odd to me that anybody could get mad at this release, since nobody is forcing anybody to buy it, and the original film tracks were just released in the best quality they probably ever will be.

It's one of the best looking Tadlow releases out there. And liner notes are interesting, too.

I can't wait to try out Blu-ray disc.

You can go wrong with either this or Music Box Records version. Both are wonderful but for different reasons.

The Tadlow re-recording of Herrmann's Obsession finally arrived. :)

The music itself is something new for me to discover but I have to say it is that classic Herrmann I know and love. The liner notes by Christopher Husted focus more on the film and its influences than Herrmann's music (no track-by-track analysis here) but since the composer's ideas do reoccur obsessively throughout spotting such structures will not be difficult. The choir and the organ are the most noteworthy inclusions in the palette of this music and add that slightly eerie yet beautiful aura to much of this music. I can't wait to delve deeper into this.
