The Paining: Season 5 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Recommended Posts

Thank you.

At this point the symptoms have almost completely dissapated. Movement is pretty much normal, i'm able to concentrate and focus more easily and memory seems fine too.

The occasional "electric-shock" sensation in my nervous system and slight numbness in one hand are really the only things that are left at the mo.

The most annoying thing is trying to gather information on topics like nutrition for people with MS etc and there is so little out there online that isn't contradictory, suspect or potentially written to flog a product.

Those are basically the symptoms my mom has had for decades, with nothing worse than occasional vertigo which isn't even necessarily linked.

I'll try and get some insight from my dad about the things you're investigating. He practiced medicine for almost 40 years.

Thank you, I'd appreciate that.

Actually found a website that stats that a certain diet will actually cure you of MS.

You just have to email them and order their "start up packet"

Blech!

I had a neighbor with MS. He ate nothing but cauliflower for a year and was cured. He always bought Blumenkohl Brand imported from Germany. I hear some other brands are less pure and less likely to cure you.

On a serious note, sometimes it's better to approach diet and lifestyle as "what to take out" rather than what to add in.

As a general rule of thumb, that tends to work better than the opposite. 1) people generally have little or nothing to gain financially by asking you to remove things from your lifestyle 2) adding things in to your lifestyle increases the complexity of the system, which introduces more points of things going wrong

How much for a bag?

55 USD or 50 Euro per kilo.

Due to the special process we they use to remove impurities from the cauliflower it gets really expensive. But it's much better Cauliflower than anything else.

Yesterday i recieved the medication i will have to take from now in.

Nothing to invasive. One injection every 2 weeks. But the list of side effects does make me apprehensive.

For the last few weeks I've felt so good that it was very easy to come to terms that I have a condition.

But today i'm going to be taught how to inject myself.

Back to reality I guess...

Hmmm. I can't recall what my mom is on but it's not that. Very early on, they gave her some sort of antidepressant (can't remember which) but it quickly became unnecessary. Chances are any side-effects will dissipate as rapidly for you, if they crop up at all.

Well thankfully that didn't turn out so bad.

The pen with which to give the injection is fairly idiot proof, and I didn't even feel anything.

In my head I did kinda have the big fucking needle that Nic Cage jabs into his heart in The Rock....

As for the depression/suicidal side effects. According to the nurse they only occur with people who have an aptitude for such things. Often those who are on antidepressants etc....

The flu-like symptoms associated with the first few injections are very very mild thus far (knocks on wood)

Thirsty though.

I don't think there's any drug or chemical out there that can make you suicidal. Some drugs (usually anti-depressants) make you feel better enough to be able to take action.

For example, genuinely depressed people can be suicidal, but they lack the motivation to even get out of bed, let alone carry out their own demise. There is a period where anti-depressants kick in enough to make them feel well enough to roll out of bed, but they still have the suicidal thoughts, and now are able and motivated enough to act on them.

Sorry to hear about the side effects Steef. :(

Random question, and feel free to ignore if too personal, but have you got a decent support network through all this that's physically there?

Alright, quick update.

The medication ive been taking for 7 weeks have screwed up my sleeping pattern so ive been precribed Temazepam, which im only supposed to take once every 3 days because it's addictive.

I've also been feeling uncharacteristicly depressed and shitty, which is something i hope will pass soon

And Monday I'm taking possession of the hearing aids ive been avoiding for the last 10 to 15 years.

Otherwise all is well

A small update as the year is slowly winding to a close.

It's been some 13 months since my symptoms started and 7 months since I was diagnosed.

In some ways things have changed dramatically yet life remains much the same.

I've worked all my life in the production industry, usually manual labour of varying degrees. This is the kind of work that I can no longer do. I've had an assessment with am insurance doctor and the outcome was that I can probably not manage more then 6 hours a day. And only non heavy manual labour. Which at the moment means I'm kind of fucked when it comes to using my previous job experiences. But in the new year I will be exploring the options that have opened up for me. (having a disease like this actually qualifies one for certain things, as it turns out.) So we'll see.

All the annoying and slightly disturbing aches and pains seem to have vanished. The nerves that were impaired seemed to have hailed up nicely, apart from slightly less sensation in 3 fingers, which will probably remain.

The main issues I'm dealing with are the occasional lapses of concentration when I can;'t for the life of me figure out where I put something, what I was gonna do again or remember something that happened literally that same day. (I've found myself cleaning the bathroom floor, only to remember after I finished that I actually did so hours before)

The fatigue is probably the worst part though. It appears to be fairly chronic, and occurs at unexpected moments. But often getting to sleep is just a fucking misery!

Usually I'll be tired and low on energy for hours, go to bed, my body slowly starts to fall asleep and right when it gets to the point where it should...it fucking wakes up. and will NOT go back to sleep again for endless hours! Even though I'm still tired.

But other then that things are mostly fine. The ringing in my ear is still there, but my brain seems to be able to tune it out unless I think of it.

Hmmm...reading this back it actually sounds like quite a miserable existence. I'm glad I'm not depressed. :)

I wouldn't worry too much about this particular aspect. As long as you have a dick and balls you're going to have this issue get progressively worse as you get older. It's normal. I'm terrible for it.

Injected to bi-weekly dose of meds early this evening and right now the side effects are appalling.

I took temazapan, but it didn't work, so i'm still awake at 05:35am. Just had a few hours of cold shivers which made it look there's an porn-industry grade vibrater running on MAX.

Right now my temp is 40°C / 104°F and no where close to sleeping.

In short, tonight sucks!

PS, Jason, I would like to change the title of my thread.
