Sharkissimo 1,973
My decision to want him on board came immediately after hearing his latest piece. Definitely has the capability to get dense in the right way. Is it dissonant, or is it like a Thomas Kinkade painting?
Dixon Hill 4,234
It's dissonant (his brand of it), vague, very painterly.

nightscape94 965
Cuaron and Star Wars? Why? Neither Gravity or Children Of Men indicate that he's perfect for Star Wars". Good thing you didn't have influence on the decision to hire Irvin Kershner?
A24 4,331
Weren't Kershner and Marquand merely 'yes men'?Kershner: "What a ridicilous performance, Mr Ford! Please do it again."Lucas: "No, it's good enough."Kershner: "But ..."Lucas: "There is no 'but', only 'Yes, sir'."
crocodile 8,006
Well, Lucas and Kasdan weren't happy because Kershner would change the script. That's why he hired Marquand who wouldn't be so tiresome to work with.Karol
Unlucky Bastard 7,782
Did Lucas resent Kershner for being a better director than him?
publicist 4,643
In fact, Kirshner was Lucas' mentor and he relished having him onboard. It was the cost overruns that made Lucas anxious because he financed the thing himself and had several grueling meetings with bankers to keep EMPIRE from sinking altogether (nobody knew if it was going to do any business). It wasn't a happy experience. If Kershner would have wanted to continue, he probably could have done it, after EMPIRE money wasn't a big issue anymore. Bilbo 3,709
Kershner was asked to do Jedi but declined because of how big an undertaking it was after Empire. Lucas has never had a bad word to say about Kershner or his directing on Empire from what I can tell. Empire is also the film with the least number of obvious additions down the years. Unlucky Bastard 7,782
Just that stupid "Alert my stardestroyer" line and showing every step of Vader's trip back to his ship. And replacing the Emperor with the new guy with new stupid dialogue and replacing Boba Fett's creepy voice with that outrageously hilarious kiwi accent guy. #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Brilliant addition! Helped enormously to improve the pacing of that scene. And gave us a first look at ROTJ.Lucas wanted to include that whole sequence initially, but he had to wait till Marquant shot the next film 3 years later mstrox
