Mychael & Jeff Danna scoring Pixar's The Good Dinosaur

Recommended Posts

Hmm, sounds a little generic to me.

Hardly generic. This is going to be a lovely score.

Has 'generic' come to refer to anything that isn't instantly catchy/loveable? Either way, I don't think we've heard enough to know how good the score is.

I liked Jeff Danna's scores to Continuum, so he should be welcome here. However judging by that clip I think the scene is a bit reminiscent to the Forbidden Friendship scene in How to Train Your Dragon.

It seems to be a mix of that and the "look up to the stars" scene between Mufasa and young Simba.

Forbidden Friendship/Life of Pi. Yes.

An early review for the film mentioned the score:

Credit, too, goes to a nervy score by Mychael Danna and Jeff Danna, which mixes strains of country, Native American music and more traditional orchestral soundtrack. The juxtaposition might seem odd on occasion, but like the film in general, its proof that Pixar refuses to go on autopilot, pushing its artists into new, and sometimes quite rewarding, terrain.

The tracklist has been revealed, too:

1. Homestead

2. Hello Arlo

3. Chores

4. Make Your Mark

5. Fireflies

6. Critter Problem

7. You're Me and More

8. Family Struggle

9. Swept Away

10. Mountain Top

11. Lost in the Wild

12. Offerings

13. Unexpected Friend

14. Pet Collector

15. Swimming Lessons

16. Orphans

17. The Storm

18. I'm Never Getting Home

19. Storm Chasers

20. Bloodhound

21. Fight Them Rustlers

22. Run With the Herd

23. Returned Call

24. Sky Sharks

25. Arlo's Vision

26. Rescue

27. Over the Falls

28. Goodbye Spot

29. Homecoming

30. Arlo Makes His Mark
