A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) - 2015 3CD set from La-La Land Records

There is something hauntingly sad and existential about this score... Contains some of the most beautiful and elegant underscores ever written, IMHO.

It certainly is among my Top 10 JW scores.

I gotta be honest, I'm no audiophile when it comes to this stuff. I never thought the original soundtrack was a muddy mess so many of you do. But to my ears, the new release sounds absolutely great. I've listened with headphones, on my home stereo setup, and in my car and it sounds crystal clear. The Mecha World is particularly amazing :)

Awesome. Can't wait to hear it!

Fun fact: The track "Rouge City" on the OST was a mess!

For the first part of the track, a portion of "Opening End Credits" (which is already heard on the OST as track #2 "Abandoned In The Woods") is repeated, along with the small portion of the actual "3M7 New Abandoned In The Woods" used! The LLL set of course provides the full original cue, complete with all the music at the beginning for Monica and David in the woods as David starts to release what is happening, as well as a crazy never before heard ending for unknown deleted footage!

For the second part, a portion of "The Mecha World" is tracked in to cover the removal of the Strauss quote! The LLL set, of course, provides the complete original untouched recording of "5M5 The Journey To Rouge City", with the full untouched Strauss quote.

Ahhhh! You're killing me!

Can't wait :) :) :)

The good thing for both Hook and AI was that despite the bootleg for Hook and Oscar Promo for AI, there was still a bunch of never-before-heard music to include in the official expanded release.

Good times!

How many of those spreadsheets do you have Jay?

You mean like how many different scores have I analysed in that way?

Seriously, this might be the best expanded JW release ever. For me, at least.

I can't praise this score/release enough. Can't wait to get a hold of it.

So, i guess Jay you will have to update a bit the spreadsheet.

Way ahead of you!

well, when I mentioned it I had just looked at it and it wasn't updated. ;)

(i had it in my bookmarks. or maybe the updated version doesn't show if you go from your bookmarks? I don't know)

1941 and Empire of the Sun are pretty perfect too, but I agree. Hopefully, beautiful presentations like this one will become more of the norm for Williams expansions.

Yes

Hmmm, two or three dozen I think. Any particular score you're interested in?

How many sets are still left? Any way of knowing?

I'm not worried (yet), because I'm pretty sure this will last at least 10 to 14 days before it goes OOP, but I'm curious.

At 35 bucks it won't go OOP within a few days (I'm hoping).

I didn't get confirmation but status statuses "shipped".

Karol

Ditto. But I trust it has been shipped. :)

Jay, now that you have listened to it, howe about those concert versions of the A.I. theme?

Do they have any kind of development with passages not found elsewhere in the soundtrack, or it's theme and repeat(s) with different texture/orchestration?

Also, does it explain in the liner notes that part 2 of Journey through the ice is the original cue, and part 1 is the alternate?

Why did they choose this labelling?

By the way, a fun fact I just learned by a composer who was in one of the sessions.

He said that in one of the cues the bassoon player's cellphone rang!

Was the bassoon player fired? Such shenanigans cost time and money!

Which are your top 5 cues from the movie?

Mine are:

1. Abandoned in the Woods

2. David's Arrival

3. The Reunion

4. Monica's Plan

5. The Mecha World

But like I said many times, the whole score is a masterpiece (almost) on the same level as E.T., Jaws, and Hook.

I am so bad at these top 5 thingies. I constantly keep changing my mind as there are far too many great cues in the score.

Where Dreams are Born

A.I. Theme (Search for the Blue Fairy with soprano soloist)

Reunion

The Specialist Visits

Mecha World

But then again Wearing Perfume, Monica's Plan, David Studies Monica, Hide and Seek, Abandoned In the Woods, Journey Through the Ice, Replicas, What Is Your Wish and many others are brilliant.

Yeah, it's hard, especially when it comes to scores like A.I., which is consistently brilliant from start to finish.

But certain cues stick out, imo. Like the heartbreakingly sad English horn solo from David's Arrival... I was so impressed when I heard that for the first time, I was literally blown away. I must have rewatched that scene/listened to that cue hundreds of times by now.

And the entire Abandoned in the Woods scene, of course.

The Mecha World is definitely my favourite. After that it becomes fuzzy

Karol

Fuzzy in a good way or bad?
