Update - and apologies if this has been found already. I went to the US Copyright Office database. Evening at Pops: T.V. Theme is listed as being created in 1981. So, it seems that is the date we should probably use to list it.

https://cocatalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?v1=18&ti=1,18&Search_Arg=evening at pops&Search_Code=TALL&CNT=25&PID=9k6ZLAWqd8b9h7OZyMDJ9X4SAL&SEQ=20190324201814&SID=1

Oh, that's great. Thanks for checking! It makes sense that he composed it right after he took over the Pops. I'll have to redo my chronology now, as I always thought his 1985 return to episodic television was the first time since 1968. Now I'll have to narrow in the window a little bit.

It's OK. Always kinda loved the twangy guitar bit towards the end there (in JW's ROSEWOOD/REIVERS/etc. mode), totally out of the blue.

This picture don’t correspond at all with the real cover of the album.

Seriously, I never add an album on my website before the official release date. That’s my decision.

Bespin, shouldn't you also add the vinyl re-issue of Schindler's List by LLL on your Wikipedia page?

If you give me 20 $ perhaps.

Well it have a clean version of "The Flag Parade" (The Phantom Menace), it's probably an EDIT, but it's a well done one.

Overall it's a must have for the people who don't own the original albums of all the concert stuff.

But no, it's not "essential".

I don't update my disco very often now, so I added "Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Symphonic Suite (Music Inspired by the Disney Themed Land)" in the composition page, then in the "Soundtracks conducted by others" one. For a reason or another, it was missing, oops!

Yes, in UK.  I made JW's american discography. I can't go international, it would be a mess.

soundtrackscollectors do that... and their website contains a lot of errors and.. is a mess.

No, it's actually very easy to navigate, as all discographies should be. You click on the film's title, and you'll see all its issues on that page. Both US and non-US releases.

I'm trying to write some notes for my copy of By Request... and I'd like to have the recording dates for the re-released tracks. Can anyone who has access to any of the original CDs/LPs of Pops Around the World, Pops in Space, Pops on the March, Aisle Seat or Out of this World either post the recording dates or confirm that no such information is given? I've checked discogs.com but they only have the year of release, not the recording date.

On Philips Classics of that vintage, the recording date was usually given as a month and year at the bottom of the back cover (e.g. "Recorded Boston, 11/1983").

Thanks,

Mark

Great work, for me it always was very important when I started my Discography, to include comprehensive stuff like notes about "Previously unreleased" material and "re-recordings" album.  Many people on this forum helped me (Lairdo, Miguel, Stempel, Jay, even Thor at some point!)

Having all the albums in one page allows to search using such keywords as "Previously unreleased" and "re-recording".

It helped me to build my CD collection of John Williams and I hope it will help any new fan.

Thanks Bespin - that must have been a lot of work. I will be looking at this when deciding what to buy next...

At the risk of adding to your workload, would it be possible to add a note to the releases that consist entirely of previously released material? For example, I've been looking at Star Wars - The Best Of Space Music from 1990 and I assume it's just a rehash of the stuff he previously recorded in the 80s with the Boston Pops, but it'd be helpful if your discography confirmed one way or the other. Same goes for Space-Taculars and Space and Time from 1995.

Thanks,

Mark

All those Philips compilations are 100% just re-releasing material from the original run of albums. The thread I linked you to showcases the only albums with new material; anything else is a compilation of existing tracks - except of course for By Request, which is the only hybrid of old tracks and premiere tracks.

For that specific album

  1. Star Wars Main Theme    5:38 = from Pops in Space
  2. Princess Leia    4:06 = from Pops in Space
  3. The Asteroid Field    4:15 = from Pops in Space
  4. Yoda's Theme    3:21 = from Pops in Space
  5. The Imperial March    3:07 = from Pops in Space
  6. Parade Of The Ewoks    3:30 = from Out of This World
  7. Luke & Leia    4:25 = from Out of This World
  8. Jabba The Hutt    3:32 = from Out of This World
  9. The Forest Battle    4:03 = from Out of This World
  10. Superman March    4:27 = from Pops in Space
  11. Superman Love Theme    4:49 = from Pops in Space
  12. E.T. Adventures On Earth    9:12 = from Out of This World
  13. The Flying Theme    3:43 = from Aisle Seat
  14. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind Suite    10:09 = from Pops in Space
