For the first time, all 75 original Silly Symphony cartoon soundtracks will be released on sixteen pristine vinyl records, in eight gatefold covers plus a keepsake slipcase box. Each album will feature liner notes by renowned Disney music historians. Multi-award-winning producer Randy Thornton has meticulously restored and remastered every note of these priceless musical works, from The Skeleton Dance and The Old Mill to Three Little Pigs and The Night Before Christmas. The sound quality will be unlike that of any and all previous audio or video releases.

What if the digital download is of a higher quality then the meager 16 bit 44.1 Khz that CD offers?

Still I would prefer the cd.

I don't think the difference would be audible by most people..

To quote myself from FSM....

I'd LOVE this. Absolutely LOVE this. I just don't have a turntable to play it.

But wow, I never thought this stuff would see a release. I may buy just to support it but I wish there'd be a CD option as well.

I wish they had restored and released the actual shorts on Bluray first, before tackling with the soundtracks.

$400 for 8 LPs??

Who will get those?

Even Bluray boxsets with complete series cost far less!!

(eg. Lost In Space complete series, 18 BDs, for $130 currently at amazon)

$400 - what???

Even the Disneyland boxset that was released years ago didn't cost that much on its initial release...and that was CDs. Like to know where they will find people that will pony up that kind of money for records that will degrade each time they're played.

They gotta be banking on that 5% of music buyers....I guess at $400 a pop they'll make money. I just don't get why they didn't bother with CDs or even a digital download.

The article Jay linked to says a free Digital Download comes with it...

Um... You buy the set. You use the code to download the digital version. You sell the set when it goes out of print, hopefully at a profit.

I think he implied as a standalone, cheaper item for purchase. The download just encourages people without high end systems or ears to preserve the discs as collectors items.
